    Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2015 (4/26/15)

    May 10, 2015 / 1 Comment

my ace friends and i had a great time again this year at TRP! photo notes: the black & white photo is from the “OUT IN JAPAN” photo exhibition by Leslie Kee inside Harajuku GAP, which was also running a #rainbowgap photo booth campaign. the writing on the trans flag says 「色んな性の在り方を認め合おう!」/ “Let’s acknowledge the existence of various sexes/genders!” (in Japanese the same word is used to refer to both sex & gender) the meerkat, its human and its friend on the human’s shoulder deserve to be included for showing up to both last year’s and this year’s TRP in style. and yes, meerkats, among numerous other wild animals, are imported and sold as pets in Japan. i hope you are as outraged about that as i am, even if this meerkat is cute. ;(

    Ace & Non-binary Pride @Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2015 (04/26/15)

    May 10, 2015 / No Comments

like last year, a handful of us gaijin aces went to Tokyo Rainbow Pride and walked in the parade with Stonewall Japan. this year, i personally decided to raise non-binary / Xジェンダー awareness at the same time. 🙂 also like last year, we started out small with there being only three of us, then we ran into an old friend from last year, becoming four. THEN while lounging around someone on Tumblr messaged me that they were there and had seen us walking in the parade, so we meetup with that person and became five! w00t! we even ran into the-shynamites again this year, but i wasn’t able to get a photo of their awesome ace pride sign. ;( i even ran into the author of the forthcoming, crowd-funded book about Xジェンダー / non-binary people in Japan!! D; the asshat that we ran into later aside, we had a great…

NHK Heart Net TV to air feature on non-binary people

    May 6, 2015 / No Comments

for those of you who don’t know, last month (4/30/15) the NHK series Heart Net TV (ハートネットTV) aired an episode that discussed problems that X-gender / Xジェンダー* people face in Japan. more specifically, they: read fanmail sent in by a person in their 40s who’s questioning and was given shitty “advice” from a support hotline interviewed an FtX person who is out in their workplace discussed issues live on air with two guests, an FtM** and an FtX** person aside from Japan’s continuous failure to distinguish between sex, gender and sexuality, it was a good episode, imho. you should definitely check it out if you missed it (and can understand Japanese)! the episode will be reaired tomorrow, 5/7 (Thurs) @1:05PM on NHK Eテル. you can also watch it online here! もし先月に放送されたNHK EテルのハートネットTVのXジェンダーについてエピソードを見なかったら、明日5月7日(木)午後1時05に再放送されますので是非見てください!又はネット上でも見えます!クリックしてね。 * for those wondering, X-gender / Xジェンダー is the Japanese equivalent of genderqueer and/or non-binary in English. **…

    Q&A: “Before I identified as a woman and a lesbian. But now…”

    April 29, 2015 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi is me again! i’m so confused about me right now. Before I identified as a woman and a lesbian. But now I’m getting very masculine, I do not care if someone calls me by male pronouns, and it looks like I’m starting to like men too. The bad thing is that there was already out of the closet to my parents. (I just like mans when i feel like a man, and i like girls when i feel like girls)   thanks for sending your ask again, i’m sorry that i accidentally deleted it the first time! some people find that their sexuality and/or gender changes with time, the situation, etc. this is called gender/sexual fluidity and it’s totally natural and not uncommon at all, it just doesn’t get recognized or talked about enough. as a person who does not experience gender or sexual fluidity, i won’t…

I’m autistic and dyslexic so I couldn’t understand a word of it úvù” I’m sure people with different/no disabilities have an easier time though   thank you for the feedback. i assume you’re talking about the definition of maverique… i’m sorry that it’s difficult/impossible for you to understand. i’m still trying to figure out a clearer way of explaining/defining it so that it’s easier for everyone to understand, but feedback like this helps. thank you again. 🙂

QAC 36 – What Acephobia & Asexual Erasure Looks Like

    April 27, 2015 / No Comments

today some ace friends and i went to Tokyo Rainbow Pride where we were approached by a smug as fuck acephobic asshat. this video is dedicated to those who do not believe that acephobia and/or asexual erasure are a thing and to those who struggle dealing with people belittling the shit you deal with. let there be video of acephobia & asexual erasure in action for the world to see. content warning:  misogyny, asexual erasure, acephobia, offensive-level ignorance, etc etc ※ what is acephobia? fear, prejudice or discrimination against people within the asexual (ace) spectrum; the belief that asexuality is “unnatural”, “wrong” and/or a health issue that needs “correcting”. ※ what is asexual erasure? denying the existence of asexuality, asexuals and/or other sexualities and people within the asexual spectrum; the lack of representation and misrepresentation of  asexual spectrum people in the media. edit: later we came across Mr. Asshat again interviewing people…

    April 26, 2015 / No Comments

just finished walking with Stonewall Japan in the Tokyo Pride Parade! みんな、お疲れ様です! having a great time, although i want to smack people upside the head every time they refer to this event as “gay pride”. way to erase everyone else, guys (*`Д´)ノ!!! edit: …so like 15 minutes of the most acephobic shit just happened while we were sitting here with our ace pride sign. like HOLY SHIT, that was the most awkward, offensive 15 minutes (that felt like 30) in my life. and i got 10minsish of it on video. will post it soon. UGH.

    April 25, 2015 / 1 Comment

just about ready for Tokyo Rainbow Pride tomorrow! last year i wore my ace pride shirt, but this time around it’s time for some non-binary / Xジェンダー pride and visibility! thankfully the shirt i made arrived just in time. 🙂 i’ll still be hanging out with my ace friends helping with asexual awareness & visibility, but my gender is just as important as my sexuality. in case you’re wondering, Xジェンダー / X-gender is the Japanese equivalent of genderqueer and/or non-binary in English.

    April 25, 2015 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi! I really identify with the term ‘maverique’ and am so glad to have found it, but I’m a little worried about being taken seriously with it. It’s new and I know several gender identities are often mocked by others in the community, and certainly in society in general. ‘Maverique’ fits me so well, yet I’m still wary of using it, especially considering I plan on coming out to family soon. Should I just stick to the ‘non-binary’ umbrella for simplicity’s sake or stand by my conviction??   hello. 🙂 i’m afraid i can’t really give you an answer to your question, anon. coming out is an extremely personal decision. just as you are the only one who can decide whether to come out or not, you are the only one who can decide who you come out (or don’t come out) to and what you come out…
