QAC 27 – Goodbye Neutrois, Hello Maverique (ie. me changing labels)

    July 7, 2014 / No Comments

my gender identity may be changing, but my gender itself is not. in this video i blurb about why i no longer identify as neutrois and instead have coined a new gender identity: maverique. what is maverique? http://maveriques.tumblr.com/maverique my issues with some people’s use of neutrois: http://bit.ly/1oqQMXK basically a verbal rehashing of this post for the YouTube crowd. see also: a noteable discussion that stemmed from this video [ 1 ] + [ 2 ] + [ 3 ]

    QAC 26 – Gender Dysphoria: It’s Complicated. (a rant)

    June 30, 2014 / No Comments

GENDER DYSPHORIA ISN’T BLACK & WHITE. NOTHING is black & white and i really wish people would stop acting as if body dysphoria is the black and social dysphoria the white of gender dysphoria. IT’S FAR MORE COMPLICATED THAN THAT. and that’s before you even consider that even internal/body dysphoria is inevitably connected to society, which i didn’t talk about at all in this video. anyway, i feel like more people need to acknowledge this fact, advice/resource blogs and websites especially. …i can’t even remember what it was that set me off on this rant. it was triggered earlier this week, but it wasn’t until today that i had time to get in front of a camera zzz…

    “yellow as a maverique”

    June 25, 2014 / No Comments

disclaimer: this overly simplistic graphic is in NO WAY meant to illustrate nor erase the numerous and diverse genders that exist. JUST OVERSIMPLIFYING FOR EASE OF UNDERSTANDING, FOLKS! …had to put the disclaimer on the image itself as well because i know eventually Google will pick it up, separating it from this post and the context needed to view it with.

    “maverique” v3.0

    June 21, 2014 / 1 Comment

[ maverique — definition reworded 06/21/14 ] a faded yellow, white and orange pride flag on which black text reads: maverique /mav ˈrēk/ franglais coined by Vesper H. from the English eponym “maverick” and the French suffix “-ique”. pronounciation is “mav-REEK”,  rhyming with “antique”. a gender characterized by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of self that is entirely independent of male/masculinity, female/femininity or anything which derives from the two while still being neither without gender nor of a neutral gender. this is the third rewording of the definition of maverique. i’ve tried to do away with some of the larger words found in previous definitions while still making the meaning of the word clearer. what do you think…? i’m preparing to make a page and/or secondary Tumblr account dedicated to maverique and once wording of the definition seems more or less stable, i’ll record a video about it too. 🙂

    the maverique flag

    June 16, 2014 / No Comments

this is the flag that i’ve designed for maverique, the gender i’ve recently coined. the “short & sweet” explanation of the colors is: yellow (#fff344): primary/elementary* gender; non-binary gender white (#ffffff): autonomy; independence orange (#f49622): inner conviction; maverick but of course there is much more to the meanings and color selections than that. yellow is a primary color (see: subtractive color / CMYK), meaning that it isn’t obtainable from combining any other colors and thus is entirely independent from the other primary colors, cyan (blue) and magenta (pink). *i feel that this is the perfect analogy for maverique’s relationship to male/masculinity and female/femininity. yellow is also often associated with non-binary gender. white represents autonomy or independence from the gender binary and even from the spectrum of colors (genders) created by combinations of cyan/blue (male/masculinity) and magenta/pink (female/femininity). white represents the figurative blank gender slate upon which maverique is based. orange represents the deep, burning inner conviction that a maverique feels in…

maverique: why i coined the word

    June 16, 2014 / 2 Comments

there are words being coined for this and that all the time, especially on Tumblr, so i feel like i should explain why i’ve coined the word “maverique” and why i feel like the word “neutrois” is no longer enough for me. before i begin, however, i want to make it clear that i am NOT coining a gender identity. i am simply coining a word and applying it to an already existent gender which the English language currently lacks a word for. genders themselves are not coined nor invented. my gender has never changed; i have always been the gender that i am. what’s changing is the word i use to describe that gender because now, finally, i have a word that is more accurate. i have identified as neutrois for over a year… why am i changing that now? how is maverique different and why is neutrois no longer enough?

    hmm….

    June 15, 2014 / No Comments

so i just stumbled upon a new gender that has recently been coined by someone else called “aporagender”. aporagender: Aporagender is a term newly coined, meaning a gender separate from male, female, and anything in between while still having a very strong and specific gendered feeling. I have a checklist for if your gender if aporagender: Your sense of gender is stronger than that is “normal” (I hate saying normal to describe this but I can’t think of a better way to do it) Your gender is completely and totally not male or female and while i like it (it’s actually similar to the gender i’m coining, maverique), i agree with lithrobotics about the problematic wording. wtf does having a sense of gender that’s stronger than “normal”, “average” whatever word you want to use even mean? this is highly presumptive, arbitrary and meaningless. sorry, creator of this word. i also agree about the use of “checklist”. i didn’t…

    “maverique” v2.0

    June 15, 2014 / No Comments

[ edit: please see the reworded definition here. ] a faded yellow, white and orange pride flag on which black text reads: maverique /mav ˈrēk/ franglais coined by Vesper H. from the English eponym “maverick” and the French suffix “-ique”. pronounciation is “mav-REEK”,  rhyming with “antique”. a non-binary gender characterized by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of gender which is unorthodox, unconventional and entirely independent of conventional concepts of gender. this is an updated description of maverique with the (current) design of the maverique flag faded in the background for ease of reading. i’m trying to keep things shorter and concise compared to the last version, but in doing so i feel like i may be making this more difficult for others to understand…. feedback would be much appreciated. :/

    “maverique” v1.0

    June 1, 2014 / 1 Comment

….this is me attempting to further define my own gender while phrasing it in such a way that assumes that there may be others out there who have a similar gender identity and who may someday like to use this term for themselves. a huge assumption on my part.

    GENDER.

    February 16, 2014 / No Comments

GENDER it isn’t black & white no matter how much you want it to be …i made this for several reasons. it bothers me when i see someone’s gender identity being ignored, erased or invalidated for any reason*. it bothers me when i see people bitching about there being “too many labels” just because they themselves lack the need for them. it bothers me when i see people both within and outside of the LGBTQIA community (esp. within the genderqueer and non-binary communities) trying so hard to define this and that that they begin to paint things black & white, oversimplifying things to the point of erasing the shades of gray that so many people actually find comfort in. it bothers me when someone feels that they have the right to tell someone else that they aren’t the gender that they identify as because they don’t want to transition medically,…
