    Q&A: “What mic do you use to record your videos?”

    August 31, 2017 / No Comments

    anonymous said: Hi Vesper! What mic do you use to record your videos? hi anon. 🙂 i’ve been using a RØDE VideoMic Pro for the past 10 months because for awhile i lived in a very noisy apartment and the street noise in all of my videos finally got to me. no matter what i did, the camera’s built-in mic was just too good at picking up ambient noise from outside my apartment. that said, for 3 years prior to that i used the camera’s built-in mic and the built-in mic was fine until i moved to the paper-thin-walled apartment. generally speaking, external mics tend to be unnecessary, especially when just starting out on YouTube, because built-in mics tend to be decent these days. that said, if you do find yourself needing an external mic, there’s no reason to fork out the kind of cash that i did for mine. there are…

    QAC 58 – Escaping Womanhood || Non-Binary | AFAB | Internalized Misogyny

    August 16, 2017 / No Comments

    as a non-binary person who was deemed to be female at birth, i have struggled all my life with what others consider to be my “womanhood”. when women have fought so hard to progress gender equality to where it is today, asserting that there is no wrong way to be a woman because women can do and be anything– juxtaposed against the continual struggle of trans women and some non-binary people just to have their womanhood recognized and respected– it is incredibly hard not to see my own rejection of womanhood as anything other than internalized misogyny. it certainly doesn’t help that society in general, but women especially, are often more than happy to write off my gender as being nothing more than internalized misogyny. i mean, given how awesome women are but how misogynistic society is, obviously any disconnect i feel with womanhood must be a result of internalized…

    anonymous said: Just wanted to say I love watching your youtube videos. They are very interesting to listen to and very informative. Can’t wait to see more in the future! thank you for watching, anon, and for this incredibly kind message. it’s hard for me to see my videos as being anything more than me letting off steam / thinking aloud in front of a camera, so it’s flattering to hear someone describe them as informative. i look forward to making more videos in the future. 🙂

    QAC 57 – Depression and Anxiety, meet Antidepressants | Sertraline | Mental Health

    July 9, 2017 / 1 Comment

    for over 15 years i’ve struggled with Depression and Anxiety without therapy or medical intervention for numerous reasons, but having had Depression and Anxiety mop the floor with my ass for the past several months, i’ve finally bitten the bullet and sought out help in the form of antidepressants. in this video, i talk about my recent bout with depression and anxiety, my first psychiatric appointment and my first week on antidepressants. don’t want to watch the whole thing? don’t blame you, i’m longwinded as fuck. here are some jump points: ?00:31 – deteriorating mental health ?06:16 – first psychiatric appointment ?11:03 – antidepressants: the bad ?16:42 – antidepressants: the good …so this happened.

    …mmm, so.

    March 24, 2017 / No Comments

    i’m extremely busy and low on spoons right now, so i’ve been silently keeping a very weary eye on the ongoing situation regarding YouTube’s age-restricted censorship of LGBTQIA content. as youtuber after youtuber responded to the censorship of their videos and the outcry from youtubers and non-youtubers alike grew, i’ve remained silent because, as i said, i’m extremely busy and low on spoons– but also because i glanced at Creator Studio, the backend of YouTube for content creators, and saw no change in my video listing or anything else that indicated restriction. well, my exhausted, weary (and wary) ass turned on “Restricted Mode” tonight. 29 out of 65 of my videos and 4 entire playlists have been marked as potentially inappropriate for young viewers. and you know, if i weren’t barely functioning, struggling to even find the time to eat and sleep right now, i’d most certainly be livid and…

    QAC 56 – Non-Binary In The Workplace: Job Hunting In Japan

    March 5, 2017 / No Comments

    navigating any job market as a non-binary and / or gender non-conforming person can be tough, especially given the current void of information and resources available on the subject. since i’ve recently found myself having to navigate Japan’s job market, i figured i might as well threw my own personal experience out there into the void. perhaps it’ll help someone else out there. please note that this video is not a ‘how-to’ on finding a job in Japan. rather, i talk about my own (limited) personal experience the job market in Japan in terms of navigating names when your actual name differs from your current legal name, navigating Japanese standards of “professional attire”, being forced to reevaluate things like HRT and “activism” outside of the workplace, etc. long video is long, so here are some jump points for ease of viewing: ?00:56 – disclaimers ?02:26 – background information ?03:19 –…

    Q&A: “what do you think about asexuality and the LGBTQ community today?”

    November 7, 2016 / No Comments

    aro-probably-ace-ravenclaw said: Hi, Vesper! As my url says, I’m somewhere in the ace spectrum. I saw your video about asexuality and the LGBTQ community, and I need to ask: what do you think about it today? Something change?   hi! thanks for watching the video and for asking. while i would change some things about that video if i were to redo it today, the gist of what i said in those 16 minutes of blabbering remains true today and can be summarized by what i said @3:58: my personal stance on [asexuals being part of the LGBTQ community] is that anyone who feels that they are queer, anyone who identifies with the word ‘queer’, anyone who identifies as being part of the LGBTQ community has every right to identify as such. and those who do not feel like they identify with such a community or that they want themselves associated…

    QAC 55 – Older Asexuals: Coming Out Later In Life | Questioning | Trauma

    October 23, 2016 / No Comments

    happy Asexual Awareness Week! last year for AAW i made this video in support of younger aces. this year i’m putting the focus on older aces, because i genuinely feel like the asexual community in general does not do enough to raise awareness of and support for aces who older than the majority of the more visible, active ace community at present. this video is first and foremost a positivity video that hopes to offer words of encouragement to older aces, but i also try to bring light to the unique things that older aces may face, including the desexualization of older people, the taboo of sexuality as an older person & how older aces may struggle with reconciling asexual identity with the identity(/ies) that they already had for years prior to discovering the word “asexual.” i also touch upon things that one may find relevant regardless of age, such…

    QAC 54 – Confusing Gender Envy & Admiration with Attraction || Non-Binary | Asexual

    October 10, 2016 / No Comments

    it’s come to my attention recently that some feelings that i assummed were attraction may have not been attraction at all, but rather “gender envy” or “gender admiration”– feelings of admiration or envy towards someone else’s gender be it their self-expression, gender identity, (lack of) gender roles or socially imposed gender norms– anything pertaining to a person’s gender. never heard of gender envy or gender admiration before…? i’m not surprised, since i just pulled the terms out of my ass for lack of a better way of referring to these gender feels that i’m attempting to navigate. as someone who’s both non-binary and asexual i feel like both of these things have played a part in me mistaking gender envy / admiration for attraction. this is something that i’m just now beginning to give thought to, so please bear with me as i stumble around trying to talk about things.…

    QAC 53 – The Trans/Cis Binary | Non-Binary vs Trans Identity | Let’s Talk

    August 19, 2016 / No Comments

    as awareness of non-binary people continues to grow and awareness of the fallacy that is male/female gender binary grows with it, is a new gender binary taking its place? there is a common assumption within society in general, but dually so within the LGBT community, that anyone who isn’t trans is cis and vice versa… if you’re someone who believes this to be true, i’d like to invite you to join in on a conversation. let’s talk! even if you don’t believe that to be true, have a seat. let’s talk! but before we do, do me a favor and watch this video. ———– RELATED LINKS ———– QAC 52 – Non-Binary vs Trans Identity | “Transitioning” “Let’s Talk: The Trans/Cis Binary” (Tumblr post)
