QAC 37.5 – Life Update: Therapy / Mom Drama 3.0 / LGBT Meetups in Japan

a long overdue and highly abbreviated update about what’s been going on in my life the past year. the highlights include turning 30 sucking, breaking off communication with my mom, trying out therapy, a self-care project, finishing my sleeve tattoo and trying to participate in local LGBTQIA events. ======== TIME POINTS ======== @00:00 – hello & thanks Kat Blaque. @00:44 – my laptop died. 🙁 @02:06 – turning 30 is depressing. @04:05 – no longer talking to my mom. @05:39 – therapy isn’t for me? @08:01 – talking about mental health stuff is hard. @08:35 – self-care: i made a thing. look at my thing. @10:17 – the body mod video is coming, i swear! @11:29 – going to LGBTQIA meetups in Japan. @13:08 – why i haven’t made videos about LGBT stuff in Japan. @14:22 – wow, you really watched all that? i love you. ==============================

I’ve reached a point where I’m not sure anymore and I’m very confused, both sexually and romantically. not only is it okay, it’s actually not uncommon. many people don’t begin actively questioning their sexual orientation, romantic orientation or even gender identity until later in life. you’re not alone, anon. also, while being confused about these things can be very stressful, it’s also okay and even natural to be confused. you’re going through a process of self-discovery. confusion is simply a part of that process. hang in there, anon! and all the best.

TBS to air 2 hour special on “Lesbian Marriage” (May 25th @7:00pm)

tomorrow, May 25th @7:00pm on the TBS show 「私の何がイケないの？」 (”What’s wrong with me?”) will be airing a 2 hour special. the topic? “Lesbian Marriage”. apparently the show will be discussing the recent legalization of civil unions (Japan’s calling it marriage but it really isn’t) in Shibuya-ku, the “marriage” of a female geinojin to her wife, the relationship between a former Takarazuka star and her partner and a trans woman (they describe her using the term 女装, ugh) who teaches at Todai?? if anyone gets a chance to watch this, could you let me know what you thought of it? i’ll be at work tomorrow during it, but i’m already cringing a what will probably happen during the show, based on various past experiences with Japan’s media coverage of the LGBT community…

Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2015 (4/26/15)

my ace friends and i had a great time again this year at TRP! photo notes: the black & white photo is from the “OUT IN JAPAN” photo exhibition by Leslie Kee inside Harajuku GAP, which was also running a #rainbowgap photo booth campaign. the writing on the trans flag says 「色んな性の在り方を認め合おう！」/ “Let’s acknowledge the existence of various sexes/genders!” (in Japanese the same word is used to refer to both sex & gender) the meerkat, its human and its friend on the human’s shoulder deserve to be included for showing up to both last year’s and this year’s TRP in style. and yes, meerkats, among numerous other wild animals, are imported and sold as pets in Japan. i hope you are as outraged about that as i am, even if this meerkat is cute. ;(

like last year, a handful of us gaijin aces went to Tokyo Rainbow Pride and walked in the parade with Stonewall Japan. this year, i personally decided to raise non-binary / Xジェンダー awareness at the same time. 🙂 also like last year, we started out small with there being only three of us, then we ran into an old friend from last year, becoming four. THEN while lounging around someone on Tumblr messaged me that they were there and had seen us walking in the parade, so we meetup with that person and became five! w00t! we even ran into the-shynamites again this year, but i wasn’t able to get a photo of their awesome ace pride sign. ;( i even ran into the author of the forthcoming, crowd-funded book about Xジェンダー / non-binary people in Japan!! NHK Heart Net TV to air feature on non-binary people

for those of you who don’t know, last month (4/30/15) the NHK series Heart Net TV (ハートネットTV) aired an episode that discussed problems that X-gender / Xジェンダー* people face in Japan. more specifically, they: read fanmail sent in by a person in their 40s who’s questioning and was given shitty “advice” from a support hotline interviewed an FtX person who is out in their workplace discussed issues live on air with two guests, an FtM** and an FtX** person aside from Japan’s continuous failure to distinguish between sex, gender and sexuality, it was a good episode, imho. you should definitely check it out if you missed it (and can understand Japanese)! the episode will be reaired tomorrow, 5/7 (Thurs) @1:05PM on NHK Eテル. you can also watch it online here! もし先月に放送されたNHK EテルのハートネットTVのXジェンダーについてエピソードを見なかったら、明日5月7日（木）午後1時05に再放送されますので是非見てください！又はネット上でも見えます！クリックしてね。 * for those wondering, X-gender / Xジェンダー is the Japanese equivalent of genderqueer and/or non-binary in English. **…
