Q&A: “What is the difference between maverique and aporagender?”

    May 6, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi! What is the difference between maverique and aporagender? Thanks! i’m going to copy and paste the answer to this because i’m especially low on time and energy today. sorry, anon! What’s the difference between aporagender and maverique? They seem similar. Aporagender and maverique are similar. In fact, they were coined around the exact same time by two different people. What a coincidence! However, according to the coiner of aporagender, aporagender can be used as an umbrella term. It can potentially encompass many genders, whereas maverique is a single, specific gender. That, in my opinion, is the biggest difference between aporagender and maverique. check out the FAQ page of @maveriques where you might find answers to other questions you have. my (and @maveriques‘) askbox is always open, though, if you still have questions. 🙂

Q&A: “ive been id-ing as genderqueer for a while now bc i know im not a girl or a boy…”

anonymous said: ive been id-ing as genderqueer for a while now bc i know im not a girl or a boy and i definitely have a gender but i dont know what? and ive been very confused on presentation lately bc i want to be understood with an underlying masculinity but wear feminine stuff and im just kinda??? its just very confusing and im very lost hi, anon. 🙂 i understand that feeling confused and lost sucks, but really it’s okay. it’s okay to be confused. it’s okay to not know what your gender is. it’s okay to not be sure how you want to present yourself. it’s okay to not be sure how to achieve how you want to present yourself. it’s okay to not know how your presentation relates to your gender, if it even does at all. as much as being confused and lost sucks, it is…

Q&A: “I have been wondering if I am trans.”

    April 4, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hello Queer as a cat. I have been wondering if I am trans. Since I was younger I prefured guy things and made friends with guys more easily. But ever since ive moved into Highschool. (Im 17) ive got all female friends. I dislike female clothes and will buy from mens section. When I think about being a boy a perfer it but sometimes not as strongly as if “eh im a girl” a part of me feels like I am a boy. I will always say ever since I was a kid”I wish I was a boy” I am very confused. thank you. Same person about questioning gender. I never really thought much about this until learning more about trans and making trans friends hi. 🙂 it’s not uncommon at all for someone to begin actively questioning one’s gender after learning that not everyone identifies as the…

    QAC 48 – Non-Binary Gender Norms & (A)sexuality: Yeah, No.

    March 27, 2016 / 1 Comment

for many the intersection of gender identity, gender norms and sexuality is complicated, to say the least. so what happens when the world doesn’t even know that your gender identity exists? when there are literally few, if any, gender norm associated with your gender? when your sexuality itself is as invisible as your gender identity and non-existent gender norms? welcome to Vesperland, where even the most complicated of things somehow manages to become even more complicated. this video is a submission for the March 2016 Carnival of Aces based on the theme “Gender Norms and Asexuality.” to find out more, check out The Asexual Agenda’s Carnival of Aces Masterpost. …has anyone ever submitted a video for the Carnival of Aces? hmm… this video will be accompanied by a text version that i’ll post tomorrow, but please don’t let that stop you from watching the video. i’ll add captions to the…

Q&A: “does maverique feel fixed and unchanging and exactly the same sensation to the same degree every day…”

    March 12, 2016 / No Comments

Leo said: I wanted to ask, does maverique feel fixed and unchanging and exactly the same sensation to the same degree every day or is it multifaceted with many qualities that shift up and down in intensity to reflect your inner feelings from day to day? [1] But it never feels like a different gender from one day to the next, it is just more shiny or soft or open or big or loud because of how you’re feeling inside? Like a person can be quiet, energetic, solemn, shy, angry etc from day to day [2] but their identity as the same person is consistent over time. My understanding of maverique is that it’s very clearly unrelated to the gender binary, removed entirely from that concept, full of inner conviction and essentially my gender=me. [3] I hope that I’ve made some sense. It was a lot to try and fit into one…

Q&A: “i know you identify as maverique but i was wondering if you also consider yourself trans?”

    March 5, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: hi, i know you identify as maverique but i was wondering if you also consider yourself trans? this is for a project im doing, in which i take stats on what labels nonbinary people use, and after looking on your about page, i was curious? thank you, i hope this is alright to ask hi. 🙂 i identify as maverique and as non-binary, but i do not personally identify as trans for various reasons that are related to me also not wanting to use the term “transition” to describe myself or the things that i (intend to) do. see this video for more info. having said that, your project sounds interesting. 🙂 i’d definitely be interested in hearing about your findings. i’ve long since been annoyed by the trans-cis binary that exists both within and outside of the trans community and i’m sure your findings will be influenced by that…

Q&A: “How do you know you’re maverique?”

    February 9, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: How do you know you’re maverique? Because I don’t know how to have a sense of this gender nor do I have anyone to talk to about. hi, anon. 🙂 i think this post pretty much answers your question, but also check out this post where i respond to someone else who is trying to get a sense of their own gender. i know it can be really tough not having anyone to talk to about something like this, but you’re not alone! i know that talking to strangers on the internet isn’t the same as actually sitting down and talking to someone, but the internet can still be a great place to start meeting people with whom you can talk to about something like this. hell, you’re already here talking to me about it. 🙂 i’m more than happy to lend a ear and help if i…

Q&A: “What are some good ways to feel your gender?”

    January 19, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: What are some good ways to feel your gender? I don’t know how to feel what my gender really is because I have no one to talk to about this irl.   hi! sorry for taking so long to reply to your ask. you might find this post helpful, where i talk about what gender is (to me) and how i have a strong sense of my own gender. also, check out this post where i talk about what makes me so sure of my own gender. the only real advice i have, if any, is to keep in mind that it’s absolutely okay to not be sure of your gender; to try to be more mindful of your own feelings and experiences (past & present); to allow yourself the time and space to question yourself. it’s all too easy to feel like you have to put a specific…

    January 18, 2016 /

anonymous said: hey, thanks megabucks for yr posts on apora- and aliagender. i was wondering if you’ve read biyuti binoahan, who afai could tell *was* arguing that white ppl cannot have a non-binary gender as it would be appropriative/racist? i feel like that particular discourse took root in many (white, masculine-nb) circles, and was The Citation about binarism. (also, my norse pagan ergi friend got bullied off tumblr for stating they had a cultural nb gender as a white person.. bluh. Emotions run Strong) hi! 🙂 i know of biyuti (b. binaohan), but i’m not sure whether or not i’ve read the writing in question. this, perhaps? i’ll have to check it out later when i’m not running on 2hrs of sleep and short on spoons. either way, based on what you’ve said about it, i’m fairly certain that i have come across arguments about binarism and non-binary genders on…

interviewer: gender feels? me: yes. YES. lots of feels. but not male, female, androgyne feels. NOT THAT. it’s something else. hang on, i’ll explain it, just give me a sec. where’s that dictionary? ...this dictionary is shit. i’m gonna google it, just a sec. -- years later -- me: GODDAMNIT, i’ve looked fin everywhere, even tried to settle for something else, but i can’t. can no one talk about gender in a way that doesn’t revolve around masculinity or femininity OR being somewhere in relation to those two things?! for fucks sake, never mind. just call me maverique. i’m maverique. *writes it into the dictionary with a sharpie* *points really, really hard*
