    …annnd that’s a wrap!

    May 7, 2017 / No Comments

to everyone who made it out to Tokyo Rainbow Pride today and metup with us (many of whom aren’t photoed above), otsukaresama deshita! it was great to see you all and i hope everyone had as great a time as i did. without going into a long-winded spiel because i’m exhausted (and might do it later), today was the highlight of Pride: the parade through Shibuya / Harajuku. imho, it’s safe to say that this year’s parade was the best yet in terms of asexual representation and visibility. not only that, there was also more non-binary, genderqueer and pansexual representation and visibility than in years past thanks largely in part to the NPO にじいろ学校 (formally にじいろ小町) whose group and float Ace Spec Japan walked with this year. more information and a lot more photos will be posted hopefully within the next week, so stay tuned. Q&A not Q&A: “I had no idea that they had any sort of queer events since it seems pretty taboo in most Asian countries.”

    March 1, 2017 /

anonymous said: I’m so sorry that terfs hijacked your post like that omg. I’m a big fan of Japanese culture and I want to visit one day and I had no idea that they had any sort of queer events since it seems pretty taboo in most Asian countries. Despite terfs soiling it, I actually learned something new so thank you so much! (re: this post) no problem, anon. no matter how taboo or even illegal it may be, there will always be queer people in any given country who do more than survive; they live their life and at times come together to support each other and enjoy each others company, just like anywhere else. it’s more a matter of how private or well-known such information happens to be and i’m more than happy to help if i can re: Japan.

    #SpiritDay 2016

    October 19, 2016 / No Comments

queerascat: as a teacher i’ve seen and heard of a lot of bullying, especially here in Japan where, sadly, #SpiritDay isn’t even really a thing. even though none of my students will take notice of it, i’ll be wearing purple today in honor of #SpiritDay. ※ took it upon myself to edit some of GLAAD’s #SpiritDay images to make them more accurate about myself and included an illustration of some homophobic and transphobic things i’ve heard my students saying to each other. a year has passed. it’s now #SpiritDay 2016 and the above post is as true now as it was last year with one exception. already in the early hours of the morning on #SpiritDay (JST) i’ve seen more awareness of the day and supportive tweets from Japanese Twitter! a very happy change from last year. 🙂 consider getting involved yourself and taking a stand against bullying this Thursday…

so a few weeks ago i unloaded my anxiety on here about going to a ジェンダーフリー / “gender free” party in Tokyo. well, it’s been a few days since the party and after a huge rant like that, you all deserve an update. plus i met another ace today and you’ll never guess what happened.

…the things i do to not be a ひきこもり (その①)

    March 11, 2016 / 1 Comment

ahhh, okay so i just need to vent. feel free to ignore this. someone in an Xジェンダー (Japanese non-binary) group that i’m in posted a link to a party being held in Tokyo on the 26th. there’s often some kinda of gay (literally always with fine print saying ‘men only’) or lesbian (literally always with fine print saying ‘women only’) event going on in Tokyo. more recently there are events aimed at trans men– but anyway, the point is i’m none of those things. and i haven’t really cared that much because i’m the definition of introversion. i have zero interest in night life and all of these events always happen at night. why is it that LGBTQ events more often than not involve late nights, loud music and copious amounts of alcohol??? moving on.

    Yokohama Rainbow Festa 2015横浜レインボーフェスタ 2015

    October 4, 2015 / No Comments

this is a long shot, but i ended up meeting someone at Tokyo Rainbow Pride through Tumblr earlier this year, so i might as well try again. Yokohama will be hosting its first major LGBT event, Yokohama Rainbow Festa 2015, this month. it won’t be anywhere near as big at TRP, but i know that at least one local shop will be selling ace-inclusive things and at the very least it should make for an interest day in Yokohama. i’m thinking about going on 10/31 (Sat) and making a halfassed video out of it… anyone else going???
