    February 15, 2017 /

anonymous said: I just returned to tumblr after a rather long hiatus and I just came across a post of yours and remembered how awesome and fantastic you are, and felt the need to inform you that you are one of my favorite blogs <3 thanks for the kind words, anon. it was nice reading them, especially at the moment as i find myself increasingly uncomfortable and anxious existing on this site.

Q&A: “I’ve always had these feelings of just my own personal identity BEING my gender??”

    February 12, 2017 / No Comments

lovely-sawshark said: Ive been looking at the maverique stuff, and I think that might be my gender identity but I’m not sure?? Since I was about 12, I always thought “I don’t really have a gender. I’m just Liz. Liz is my gender.” At the time I thought this wasn’t normal and kept it to myself, and a couple of years ago I discovered the nonbinary community and jumped headfirst into the idea that I was agender. I don’t have a gender, I’m just Liz! Liz is my gender! But reading your posts makes me feel like maybe I’m a maverique?? Cuz I’ve always had these feelings of just my own personal identity BEING my gender?? Idk man, sorry for the spam   not spam at all. 🙂 if the number of asks i’ve received over at @maveriques expressing similar feelings are any indication, a lot of people will be…

    word vomit: escaping womanhood

    February 10, 2017 / No Comments

time to word vomit a continuous stream of thoughts that have been going around in my head for a while now. will probably run with this more later. cw: slurs the binarist society(/ies) we live in fucks over everyone– be they trans or not– with its enforcement of binary gender roles, among other things. sometimes i’ll come across an article, blog post, whatever talking about this. to a point. sometimes it will be pointed out that how and to what extent society polices and enforces gender roles differs based on the assumed gender at birth of the person in question, among other things. that in American society, for example, people deemed to be females at birth are afforded a certain amount of leeway that people who are deemed to be male at birth are not.

adventures in Japanese TV: “Gathering of 13 Trans Women”

    February 9, 2017 / 1 Comment

…once again i get home from work, turn on the TV to see a panel show doing a special featuring trans women. despite the title of the special, shown on the top left of the screen as「13人のオネエ大集合」 / “Gathering of 13 Trans Women”, it was actually 13+ guests divided into three groups: gay men, cross dressing gay men and trans women. click the photos to see translations / context in the captions.

    …phone calls.

    February 8, 2017 / No Comments

…i’d seen a post or two come across my dashboard related to what i’m about to go off about, but i never imagined that something like this would target me or my family. oh, how naive of me. anyway, i’m simultaneously pissed off, frustrated and worried and Twitter isn’t enough to contain these feels right now. on my way to work today i random get a message from mom saying “Have you been saying things that you shouldn’t say online? The government is monitoring you.” of course i’m like “whaaaat the fuck you talking about, mom?” my mom is no “conspiracy theorist”, but she did live through shit that you read about in textbooks and given the shit going on in America these days, there is immediate cause for alarm when those words come from her. apparently people claiming to be a ““research group”” (who won’t / haven’t told her an actual…

Q&A: “Have you figured anything out about “folx” since then?”

    February 2, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said: I already follow you on tumblr and when I googled why people use folx instead of folks I was redirected to you! that’s cool…but in that ask you answered in 2015 you weren’t completely sure why folx was needed when “folks” is already gender neutral – that’s where I am as well. Have you figured anything out about “folx” since then? i’m guessing that [ this ] is the post that Google directed you to, but i wonder if you also saw [ the post ] that followed that one? since those posts in 2015, i can quite literally count on one hand the number of times i’ve come across usage of “folx” outside of Twitter, where it’s used quite commonly. i’ve personally come to the conclusion that while there may be people who use it for gender-related reasons, more often than not “folx” seems to be used exclusively on the internet…

    that feel when

    January 28, 2017 / No Comments

self-proclaimed allies look to you for guidance on how they can be a better ally while consciously or not expecting their hand to be held or their fragile feelings to be spared along the way; simultaneously oblivious every time they trample all over your feelings, perpetrating the very thing they claim to be against because they’re so focused on the elephant in the room that they pay no mind to their own everyday microaggressions.

Q&A: “I was wondering about gender neutrality in other languages.”

    January 23, 2017 / No Comments

buffintruda said: I was wondering about gender neutrality in other languages. What pronouns do you use in Esperanto? Does ili work the same as they in English? Could you create new pronouns like ni or something? And what about some nouns like patro and patrino? Would a word like gepatro make sense or would it be easier to ungender it completely and not ever use the ino suffix for feminist reasons as well as nb ones? And in Japanese how easy is it to go completely ungendered by others since it doesn’t use pronouns as much as English. I’ve heard that using different formality levels of ‘I’ can make you sound more feminine or masculine so how would you recommend a female perceived nb to get by? (3/3)   re: Esperanto no, “ili” cannot be used as a singular, gender-neutral pronoun in Esperanto. trying to use “ili” in that way will only…

    the #Jughead mess masterpost

    January 20, 2017 / 4 Comments

this post marks the last time i’ll be responding to asks about / reblogs of the post i made about the fight for Jughead’s correct portrayal on the CW’s Riverdale. after 3 days of responding to nearly 15 asks / posts on the topic and the anxiety that that has caused me on top of everything else going on in my life, i’m calling it quits on that post. while i still stand by the admittedly unclear point that i was attempting to make, i do apologize to those who were hurt by my unclear wording. i’m also done with talking about asexual representation in general or fandom-related anything anymore. while i appreciate the kind words of encouragement i received, it’s not worth the cost to my mental health to talk about even my own representation anymore. this post serves as both a future point of reference on the mess that…
