    adventures in YouTube Space!

    September 11, 2016 / 1 Comment

just got back from YouTube Space Tokyo where i attended a 5 hour intensive workshop on the basics of video production…! for those who don’t know (and it seems like not many do), YouTube has created various resources and programs for youtubers (referred to as Creators) both offline and online with perhaps the biggest offline resource being access to YouTube Spaces located around the world. YouTube Spaces feature everything from state of the art recording studios, equipment and editing software to workshops and events. access to these resources is based on the number of subscribers your channel has and if you have over 1k subscribers, you’re welcome to attend certain workshops and events for free. so that’s what i did. this post will be photo heavy.

When I’m in a better situation where I can be out in a few years, I (as a neutrois person) am eager to become a nonbinary youtuber. Your videos have really inspired me to, one day, be open about who I am and talk on subjects hat are important to me. it really is an honor, anon, to have been inspirational to you and to receive a message like this. thank you. <3 i genuinely look forward to seeing you on YouTube (and/or Tumblr) some day. i don’t take for granted the fact that i’m able to be out on the internet like i am because i know that many aren’t in such a position. i also think that wanting to talk about subjects that are important to you on YouTube is incredibly…

anonymous said: Thank you so much for your “let’s talk” post because these are things I definitely have never thought about that way and you opened my eyes to that and I will try to keep all of it in mind. I also wanted to specifically thank you for writing it out in a post as well as having the youtube video because for me that’s a major accessibility thing and I never would have been able to comprehend it the same way by watching/listening to a video. (re: this post) no problem, anon! thank you for the feedback. 🙂 i’m trying to be more mindful of accessibility by adding captions to my videos (going to caption the latest video tonight or tomorrow), but at the same time i’m aware that even with captions a video can still be inaccessible or less accessible to people… plus some people just prefer…

new look, same old Queer As Cat.

    July 10, 2016 / No Comments

finally got off my lazy ass and designed a new logo / header for Queer As Cat, which has now been carried over to all the places that my exhausted brain can think of at the moment. there’s still stuff to do (need to update the APOC links page, my profile, etc etc), but the biggest changes have been made. what do you think…? i’m afraid to even ask. it’s such a huge change in design that it’s even going to take time for it to grow on me. i’ve wanted to move away from the halfassed design i had before for years now. yeah, it was halfassed and shitty (never imagined that this blog or my YouTube would amount to something worth investing time & effort into designing), but more than anything i wanted to move away from flags / colors because there are way too many flags /…

Q&A: “I have some questions about your YouTube stuff.”

    June 28, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hey Vesper! I have some questions about your YouTube stuff. Feel free to get to this as you feel like, no rush! What are the biggest differences between discussing LGBT+ stuff on tumblr vs on YouTube? Who are some other LGBT+ vloggers that you enjoy? And do you have any advice you’d give to other people considering vlogging about LGBT+ topics and their identities? hi! i’m flattered that you’re interested in my answer to these questions. apologies in advance for the length and if my responses aren’t even helpful. “What are the biggest differences between discussing LGBT+ stuff on tumblr vs on YouTube?” the big differences between the two platforms make for big differences in the way discussions unfold and how one even goes about initiating a discussion, imho. i feel like it’s much easier to have discussions on Tumblr and the discussions that i have here are…

Re: QAC 51 – #ProudToBe Black Non-Binary Bi Pan AND Asexual

    June 23, 2016 / 1 Comment

ah, i had the most amusing day today, getting notifications on my phone for the comments left on this video. i’m not even pissed off anymore, it’s now become hilarious. people are saying that 4chan is behind the spam / hate attack on the #ProudToBe spotlight / hashtag and somehow that just makes it even more hilarious to me. i’m so amused that i felt like screencapping some of the 66 comments i’ve gotten on the video so far. trigger warning for pretty much any and everything. please respect your triggers. don’t read any further if you aren’t in a place where you can laugh at all this hate with me. me: *every time i got a notification on my phone today* this is when my apathy-fortified wall of No Fucks Given seems like a really awesome coping mechanism because it allows me to brush off / laugh off otherwise…

QAC 51 – #ProudToBe Black Non-Binary Bi Pan AND Asexual

    June 22, 2016 / 1 Comment

for those who don’t know, YouTube is currently spotlighting videos by LGBTQIA creators expressing their Pride in who they are using the #ProudToBe hashtag. i thought i’d jump on the bandwagon and add some encouraging words and visibility / representation for people like me. as the video description says, YouTube joined forces with many popular LGBTQIA content creators on its site to release the #ProudToBe spotlight today. inspired by others’ videos, but also pissed off by the public’s response to the hashtag / spotlight, i decided to make this impromptu video upon getting home from work. it’s not great, but might as well throw my face out there too, eh? as i mentioned, the public’s response to the hashtag / spotlight has been especially severe… trolls have been out in force like never before, spamming everything from the comments section of YouTube’s spotlight video itself to the comment sections of literally…

    Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2016 musings

    May 15, 2016 / No Comments

a long and rather pointless post in which i write out some of my thoughts and experiences along with photos from last weekend’s Pride in Tokyo. this post is photo heavy. for more photos from TRP, see these posts: ☆ ace & nonbinary photos ☆ general photos warning: slurs, scantly clad men and mention of genitalia. this year i went to TRP on both Saturday and Sunday for the first time. while i’m glad i did, i’m really kicking myself in regards to how i did it. i ended up being ridiculously exhausted both days before i’d even boarded the train to Tokyo all because i called myself saving money by not booking myself and Yuki (my hedgehog) into a hotel so that i could spend the night in Tokyo. the result was 5 hrs/day of riding trains two days in a row. i’m still not recovered and this entire post is…

QAC 44 – Dear White People: About “People of Color” (POC) | A Rant

    December 20, 2015 / No Comments

i’ve long since had issues with how some people, specifically white people, repeatedly misuse the term “People of Color” (aka “POC”). at long last i’m finally putting my frustrations into words in the hope of bringing awareness to these issues. in the interest of being as brief as possible, in this video i’ve summarize my issues regarding white people’s usage of this term into two points: treating POC as if they are a homogeneous group. ( @00:29 ~ ) treating whiteness as if it is the default not only in one’s own country, but internationally. ( @4:12  ~ ) obviously when people who consider themselves to be allies to POC make such mistakes the mistakes are honest ones with no ill intent behind them. however, that does not change the fact that mistakes are being made and that these mistakes should be corrected. if you consider yourself to be an…

comments on my “QAC 36 – What Acephobia & Asexual Erasure Looks Like” video.

    November 26, 2015 / No Comments

had ignored this user’s original comment on my “QAC 36 – What Acephobia & Asexual Erasure Looks Like” video for weeks but couldn’t let it go uncommented on any longer after waking up to their most recent comment. i’m sick with a cold and unable to even think clearly, so it’s likely that i flew off the handle or said something in a way that could have been said better, but i tried. really am too sick and tired and anxious in general to deal with shit like this…. and while i obviously made no effort to hide the names of the users who commented (i mean, the comments are public and easily findable on the video anyway), i’m not posting this here for anyone to attack the commenter. please don’t, although you’re free to join in on the convo if you want. i’m 100% done with it. …now to take…
