Q&A: “what are the qualifications to classify yourself as an asexual?”

    February 3, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: This may be a stupid question to ask, but what are the qualifications to classify yourself as an asexual? I think I may be one, but then again I do have my doubts and other people say I’m not, but I’m just not sure. Thanks if you can answer this, sorry if I’m a bother hi, anon. this isn’t a stupid question, nor are you a bother. 🙂 there are no “qualifications” as such, all that really matters (in so far as i’m concerned) is that identifying as asexual feels right for you. the most common definition of asexuality is experiencing sexual attraction towards no one, at least in part because many asexual people feel like that describes them. however, that isn’t the only way to come to identify as asexual and it certainly doesn’t describe everyone who is asexual. the determining factor to whether you’re asexual or not…

Q&A: “where do you personally consider the line between white and poc to be?”

    January 30, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: where do you personally consider the line between white and poc to be? I’ve heard some arguments about Mediterranean people not being white (tho ive always thought they were??) and arguments that ethnically Jewish people are white (??) and as a white person (sorry) i dont think i have a say in what is poc or not. regardless, what are your thoughts? “where do you personally consider the line between white and poc to be?” the answer to this question is easy: i personally consider the line to be no where because i don’t draw one to begin with. some may think me naive for this, but i personally do not give any thought as to whether X ethnic group of people are white or people of color. why would i? what purpose would that serve? “person of color” is an identity. if someone is a person of…

Q&A: “Is there a term for sexuality being constantly fluid?”

    January 30, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Is there a term for sexuality being constantly fluid? Like the sexual orientation version of genderfluid? hi anon! sorry for not replying sooner. i’m not aware of a specific term for when someone experiences constant sexual fluidity, but that certainly doesn’t mean that one doesn’t exist. perhaps my followers know of such a term and can help you out? i know that some people (multisexual people especially) experience fluctuations in regards to the gender(s) that they are attracted at any given time throughout their life, but i’m guessing that that isn’t what you’re referring to. followers? know of anything that might help anon?

QAC 45 – Forced Out of the Closet: 2 Years Later | Coming Out Again (Non-Binary Bi / Pan Asexual)

    January 26, 2016 / No Comments

it’s been 2 years since i was forced out of the closet by my mom; it’s been 5 months since my last video about how things are going with my family. this video is long, but it’s also long overdue. the past 5 months have been an emotional roller coaster. from breaking off communication with my mom, to coming out to my sister as bi / panromantic, to being met with further attempts at invalidation, to being “home” for the holidays, to coming out as non-binary to my sister, to FINALLY being referred to by my real name…. 2 years later, things are finally looking up. kind of. only time will tell what 2016 will bring. TRIGGER WARNING for sexual abuse & child abuse with a time jump point in the video itself so you can safely watch and skip the trigger. […] long video is long, but that’s what…

Q&A: “What are some good ways to feel your gender?”

    January 19, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: What are some good ways to feel your gender? I don’t know how to feel what my gender really is because I have no one to talk to about this irl.   hi! sorry for taking so long to reply to your ask. you might find this post helpful, where i talk about what gender is (to me) and how i have a strong sense of my own gender. also, check out this post where i talk about what makes me so sure of my own gender. the only real advice i have, if any, is to keep in mind that it’s absolutely okay to not be sure of your gender; to try to be more mindful of your own feelings and experiences (past & present); to allow yourself the time and space to question yourself. it’s all too easy to feel like you have to put a specific…

Q&A: “i was wondering if you’ve read biyuti binoahan, who afai could tell *was* arguing that white ppl cannot have a non-binary gender…”

    January 18, 2016 /

anonymous said: hey, thanks megabucks for yr posts on apora- and aliagender. i was wondering if you’ve read biyuti binoahan, who afai could tell *was* arguing that white ppl cannot have a non-binary gender as it would be appropriative/racist? i feel like that particular discourse took root in many (white, masculine-nb) circles, and was The Citation about binarism. (also, my norse pagan ergi friend got bullied off tumblr for stating they had a cultural nb gender as a white person.. bluh. Emotions run Strong) hi! 🙂 i know of biyuti (b. binaohan), but i’m not sure whether or not i’ve read the writing in question. this, perhaps? i’ll have to check it out later when i’m not running on 2hrs of sleep and short on spoons. either way, based on what you’ve said about it, i’m fairly certain that i have come across arguments about binarism and non-binary genders on…

Feedback: “I was the anon that tried to claim aliagender was racist, aporagender not…”

    January 18, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: I was the anon that tried to claim aliagender was racist, aporagender not. In the past, I had seen a number of blogs call aliagender a “racist gender that was basically third gender”. I chose to follow that notion without further research. That only really helps to contribute to the misconceptions at hand, let alone the fact the topic wasn’t mine to speak about in the first place. Thank you for calling me out on this; I am sorry for for my actions, and I will keep this in mind in the future. anon, i really appreciate you taking the time not only to read my post, but to respond to it like this as well. thank you! you most certainly aren’t the only one who saw the claims made against aliagender and who, with the best of intentions, sided with them and spread them. however, as of…

this post was triggered by three posts (tw: violence) posted recently by @nonbinary-support arguing against the use of aporagender, which has in turn triggered even more posts about race and gender.

Q&A: “how is maverique distinct from genderqueer/non-binary…”

    January 16, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi, Vesper! Please, be aware that I often struggle to accurately express myself (b/c autism+), but my request is for help with self-education re: gender. I have trouble reading/parsing academic/jargon-heavy texts, but I want to understand gender variances, esp. non-binary. (e.g., how is maverique distinct from agender?) It’s all very confusing, and I fear many transgenders will hate me b/c I’m cisgendered, b/c the things I see on my dash re: cishate are scary… I just want to understand. T^T Oh, crap, I meant to ask how maverique is distinct from genderqueer/non-binary. I found out on the gender wiki, though, that both non-binary and genderqueer are umbrella terms, so… I feel like I’m making an ass of myself. I think that I’ll probably never understand because I don’t have the same struggle, but I’d like to try. hi! don’t worry, you’re not making an ass of yourself. gender…

interviewer: gender feels? me: yes. YES. lots of feels. but not male, female, androgyne feels. NOT THAT. it’s something else. hang on, i’ll explain it, just give me a sec. where’s that dictionary? ...this dictionary is shit. i’m gonna google it, just a sec. -- years later -- me: GODDAMNIT, i’ve looked fin everywhere, even tried to settle for something else, but i can’t. can no one talk about gender in a way that doesn’t revolve around masculinity or femininity OR being somewhere in relation to those two things?! for fucks sake, never mind. just call me maverique. i’m maverique. *writes it into the dictionary with a sharpie* *points really, really hard*
