    “yellow as a maverique”

    June 25, 2014 / No Comments

disclaimer: this overly simplistic graphic is in NO WAY meant to illustrate nor erase the numerous and diverse genders that exist. JUST OVERSIMPLIFYING FOR EASE OF UNDERSTANDING, FOLKS! …had to put the disclaimer on the image itself as well because i know eventually Google will pick it up, separating it from this post and the context needed to view it with.

    the maverique flag

    June 16, 2014 / No Comments

this is the flag that i’ve designed for maverique, the gender i’ve recently coined. the “short & sweet” explanation of the colors is: yellow (#fff344): primary/elementary* gender; non-binary gender white (#ffffff): autonomy; independence orange (#f49622): inner conviction; maverick but of course there is much more to the meanings and color selections than that. yellow is a primary color (see: subtractive color / CMYK), meaning that it isn’t obtainable from combining any other colors and thus is entirely independent from the other primary colors, cyan (blue) and magenta (pink). *i feel that this is the perfect analogy for maverique’s relationship to male/masculinity and female/femininity. yellow is also often associated with non-binary gender. white represents autonomy or independence from the gender binary and even from the spectrum of colors (genders) created by combinations of cyan/blue (male/masculinity) and magenta/pink (female/femininity). white represents the figurative blank gender slate upon which maverique is based. orange represents the deep, burning inner conviction that a maverique feels in…

    “the faces of Vesper”

    June 8, 2014 / No Comments

one day the locs that frame my face will be gone and i can’t help but wonder if i’ll even recognize my own face without them— they’ve become such A Thing. either way, the love-hate relationship with my hair continues for now…

Asexy Aces at Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2014 (04/27/2014)

    May 7, 2014 / No Comments

in the beginning there were but three of us, but by the end there were five. 🙂 three of us actually met in a meetup thread on AVEN where i instigated our meetup and sign making for #TRP2014. then while walking in the parade it just so happened that L, who was walking behind us, happened to be ace herself! after the parade i was lucky enough to catch up with SHYNAMITES, whose non-binary pride sign i’d passed during the parade. when i asked to take zir photo, ze told me that ze’s asexual too! D; ah, it was a great day… note: photos #1, #3 and #4 taken by editingatwork and used with permission. (see also: the #TRP2014 photo gallery)

#TRP2014 was awesome! met lots of awesome people  and had an all around great time. 🙂 as seems to generally be the case at Prides, there seemed to be a huge under representation of everything but the L, the G and cross dressers, but what representation i did find made me extremely happy. above is a shot of the one non-rainbow flag that i saw (..ok, i did see a huge bear flag, but that doesn’t count) and i was lucky enough to meet and get a photo of a fellow non-binary ace! also, a couple of friends and i added to the diversity and inclusiveness of the event with our Asexual Pride sign, which we held with pride in the parade. GENDER.

    February 16, 2014 / No Comments

GENDER it isn’t black & white no matter how much you want it to be …i made this for several reasons. it bothers me when i see someone’s gender identity being ignored, erased or invalidated for any reason*. it bothers me when i see people bitching about there being “too many labels” just because they themselves lack the need for them. it bothers me when i see people both within and outside of the LGBTQIA community (esp. within the genderqueer and non-binary communities) trying so hard to define this and that that they begin to paint things black & white, oversimplifying things to the point of erasing the shades of gray that so many people actually find comfort in. it bothers me when someone feels that they have the right to tell someone else that they aren’t the gender that they identify as because they don’t want to transition medically,…
