Ace & Non-binary Pride @Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2015 (04/26/15)
like last year, a handful of us gaijin aces went to Tokyo Rainbow Pride and walked in the parade with Stonewall Japan. this year, i personally decided to raise non-binary / Xジェンダー awareness at the same time. 🙂 also like last year, we started out small with there being only three of us, then we ran into an old friend from last year, becoming four. THEN while lounging around someone on Tumblr messaged me that they were there and had seen us walking in the parade, so we meetup with that person and became five! w00t! we even ran into the-shynamites again this year, but i wasn’t able to get a photo of their awesome ace pride sign. ;( i even ran into the author of the forthcoming, crowd-funded book about Xジェンダー / non-binary people in Japan!! D; the asshat that we ran into later aside, we had a great…

#TRP2015 準備完了
just about ready for Tokyo Rainbow Pride tomorrow! last year i wore my ace pride shirt, but this time around it’s time for some non-binary / Xジェンダー pride and visibility! thankfully the shirt i made arrived just in time. 🙂 i’ll still be hanging out with my ace friends helping with asexual awareness & visibility, but my gender is just as important as my sexuality. in case you’re wondering, Xジェンダー / X-gender is the Japanese equivalent of genderqueer and/or non-binary in English.

“boy? girl? NO! neither.”
made this to put on a t-shirt to wear to Tokyo Pride. debating whether or not to bother making similar shirts available to others as i’ve never sold merch online before, but for now you can buy a similar shirt [ here ]?

the maverique flag
this is the flag that i’ve designed for maverique, the gender i’ve recently coined. the “short & sweet” explanation of the colors is: yellow (#fff344): primary/elementary* gender; non-binary gender white (#ffffff): autonomy; independence orange (#f49622): inner conviction; maverick but of course there is much more to the meanings and color selections than that. yellow is a primary color (see: subtractive color / CMYK), meaning that it isn’t obtainable from combining any other colors and thus is entirely independent from the other primary colors, cyan (blue) and magenta (pink). *i feel that this is the perfect analogy for maverique’s relationship to male/masculinity and female/femininity. yellow is also often associated with non-binary gender. white represents autonomy or independence from the gender binary and even from the spectrum of colors (genders) created by combinations of cyan/blue (male/masculinity) and magenta/pink (female/femininity). white represents the figurative blank gender slate upon which maverique is based. orange represents the deep, burning inner conviction that a maverique feels in…

Asexy Aces at Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2014 (04/27/2014)
in the beginning there were but three of us, but by the end there were five. 🙂 three of us actually met in a meetup thread on AVEN where i instigated our meetup and sign making for #TRP2014. then while walking in the parade it just so happened that L, who was walking behind us, happened to be ace herself! after the parade i was lucky enough to catch up with SHYNAMITES, whose non-binary pride sign i’d passed during the parade. when i asked to take zir photo, ze told me that ze’s asexual too! D; ah, it was a great day… note: photos #1, #3 and #4 taken by editingatwork and used with permission. (see also: the #TRP2014 photo gallery)

photos from Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2014 (04/27/2014)
#TRP2014 was awesome! met lots of awesome people and had an all around great time. 🙂 as seems to generally be the case at Prides, there seemed to be a huge under representation of everything but the L, the G and cross dressers, but what representation i did find made me extremely happy. above is a shot of the one non-rainbow flag that i saw (..ok, i did see a huge bear flag, but that doesn’t count) and i was lucky enough to meet and get a photo of a fellow non-binary ace! also, a couple of friends and i added to the diversity and inclusiveness of the event with our Asexual Pride sign, which we held with pride in the parade. QAC 21 – Gender Identity & Feminism
i’ve never identified as a feminist and yet when it came to questioning my gender identity i somehow felt guilty for wanting to identify as anything other than my assigned gender, ie female. was i betraying myself? someone else? women everywhere?? i guess my relationship with feminism was and will always be more complicated than i’d thought. surely it’s not just me?
