Asexy Aces at Tokyo Rainbow Pride 2014 (04/27/2014)

    May 7, 2014 / No Comments

in the beginning there were but three of us, but by the end there were five. 🙂 three of us actually met in a meetup thread on AVEN where i instigated our meetup and sign making for #TRP2014. then while walking in the parade it just so happened that L, who was walking behind us, happened to be ace herself! after the parade i was lucky enough to catch up with SHYNAMITES, whose non-binary pride sign i’d passed during the parade. when i asked to take zir photo, ze told me that ze’s asexual too! D; ah, it was a great day… note: photos #1, #3 and #4 taken by editingatwork and used with permission. (see also: the #TRP2014 photo gallery)

#TRP2014 was awesome! met lots of awesome people  and had an all around great time. 🙂 as seems to generally be the case at Prides, there seemed to be a huge under representation of everything but the L, the G and cross dressers, but what representation i did find made me extremely happy. above is a shot of the one non-rainbow flag that i saw (..ok, i did see a huge bear flag, but that doesn’t count) and i was lucky enough to meet and get a photo of a fellow non-binary ace! also, a couple of friends and i added to the diversity and inclusiveness of the event with our Asexual Pride sign, which we held with pride in the parade. frustrations re:Aセクシャル (asexual in Japanese)

    April 24, 2014 / 1 Comment

so i’ve been halfassedly thinking about making an ace pride sign for the Tokyo Rainbow Pride parade, but i’m torn because discussing asexuality in Japanese seems really difficult… of course the language barrier plays a part in that, but it’s not even just that.

    「友情結婚」

    January 10, 2014 / 1 Comment

i learned a new phrase tonight: “yuujou kekkon” (lit. “friendship marriage”) there was a message posted to an asexual group on mixi about an offline “friendship marriage” meetup, so i googled the phrase and got a surprising number of hits. from that, i stumbled upon one of many interesting message boards. ….my parents keep telling me to get married, it’s so annoying […] it would be great if i could find a woman whom i could marry with the understanding that i’m gay ??? wow. that gay people in Japan feel the need to go to such lengths is a truth that hurts.

    neutroisって日本語でなんと言いますか。

    December 26, 2013 / No Comments

while randomly watching videos on YouTube i came across the vlog of a Japanese FtX (their words, not mine) person. i was so happy that i immediately started typing a comment introducing myself, but when it came to saying that i’m neutrois i couldn’t figure out how to say it. see, Japanese kind of sucks…. there is no word to distinguish between SEX and GENDER– the both equate to 性 (sei). i dare say that the entire concept of gender vs sex is lacking in Japan, but that’s a topic for another time. i thought that maybe neutrois could be translated as 無性者 (museisha; literally translates to “person without sex/gender”) but apparently that’s used to mean asexual! wtffffff….. so then i thought that maybe i could say 中立性者 (chuuritsuseisha), which literally translates to “neutral person” but apparently 中立性 (chuuritsusei) is used in regards to having a neutral stance on any given thing and so wouldn’t really be used specifically for gender despite 性 (sei)…

QAC 15 – Conformity: Being Genderqueer Abroad

    August 29, 2013 / No Comments

sorry for the long video and please do note that everything i said in the video is purely my opinion based on my experiences etc. i don’t claim to be an expert on anything…! and i totally forgot to mention how obviously i have to keep my gender under wraps during all of this being abroad business. i have to check “female” under “gender” on forms, if anyone asks i’m female, if anyone acts on the assumption that i’m female, i can’t disagree with them, etc etc. le sigh. sorry for being M.I.A. lately…! will try to do better. ;(
