Q&A: “What is the difference between maverique and aporagender?”

    May 6, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi! What is the difference between maverique and aporagender? Thanks! i’m going to copy and paste the answer to this because i’m especially low on time and energy today. sorry, anon! What’s the difference between aporagender and maverique? They seem similar. Aporagender and maverique are similar. In fact, they were coined around the exact same time by two different people. What a coincidence! However, according to the coiner of aporagender, aporagender can be used as an umbrella term. It can potentially encompass many genders, whereas maverique is a single, specific gender. That, in my opinion, is the biggest difference between aporagender and maverique. check out the FAQ page of @maveriques where you might find answers to other questions you have. my (and @maveriques‘) askbox is always open, though, if you still have questions. 🙂

QAC 49 – Singular ‘They’ | Gender Neutral Pronouns | This Has Been A PSA

    April 24, 2016 / No Comments

singular ‘they’: voted word of the year in 2015 by the American Dialect Society, used by English speakers everywhere– even by Shakespeare– and yet today some people insist on claiming that using ‘they’ in the singular is “ungrammatical,” “trendy” or “uneducated.” pull up a chair and have a seat, because if you’re one of those people, this video was made for you. but hold up, there’s no way i’d put so much time and effort into a video just for your pathetic ass. more than anything, this video is dedicated to everyone out there fighting to have their pronouns remembered, used and respected. as hard as it is, don’t give up or feel guilty for asking people to use your pronouns. your comfort is important. your identity is valid. your request to be referred to with specific pronouns is 100% justified and worth fighting for. stay strong. next time someone…

2 cups ‘art therapy’ 1 tbsp ‘brainstorming’ 1 tsp ‘food memories’ mix well and serve on the rocks alongside a chai latte instead of the usual matcha frappuccino to aid recovery from inevitable art poisoning. not the kind of productivity i’d hoped for today, but whatever.

Q&A: “does maverique feel fixed and unchanging and exactly the same sensation to the same degree every day…”

    March 12, 2016 / No Comments

Leo said: I wanted to ask, does maverique feel fixed and unchanging and exactly the same sensation to the same degree every day or is it multifaceted with many qualities that shift up and down in intensity to reflect your inner feelings from day to day? [1] But it never feels like a different gender from one day to the next, it is just more shiny or soft or open or big or loud because of how you’re feeling inside? Like a person can be quiet, energetic, solemn, shy, angry etc from day to day [2] but their identity as the same person is consistent over time. My understanding of maverique is that it’s very clearly unrelated to the gender binary, removed entirely from that concept, full of inner conviction and essentially my gender=me. [3] I hope that I’ve made some sense. It was a lot to try and fit into one…

    March 5, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: I’ve heard the term maverique before, but I’m not quite sure what it is, would you be okay with explaining it? Sorry if this was a bother, thank you. hi, anon. sorry for taking so long to reply. to quote the definition from @maveriques: maverique is a gender characterized by autonomy and inner conviction regarding a sense of self that is entirely independent of male/masculinity, female/femininity or anything which derives from the two while still being neither without gender nor of a neutral gender. if the above is confusing, check out these links for other ways of describing maverique: [ 1 ] + [ 2 ] @maveriques also has an FAQ page that might answer specific questions you have.

Feedback: “I was the anon that tried to claim aliagender was racist, aporagender not…”

    January 18, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: I was the anon that tried to claim aliagender was racist, aporagender not. In the past, I had seen a number of blogs call aliagender a “racist gender that was basically third gender”. I chose to follow that notion without further research. That only really helps to contribute to the misconceptions at hand, let alone the fact the topic wasn’t mine to speak about in the first place. Thank you for calling me out on this; I am sorry for for my actions, and I will keep this in mind in the future. anon, i really appreciate you taking the time not only to read my post, but to respond to it like this as well. thank you! you most certainly aren’t the only one who saw the claims made against aliagender and who, with the best of intentions, sided with them and spread them. however, as of…

Q&A: “how is maverique distinct from genderqueer/non-binary…”

    January 16, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi, Vesper! Please, be aware that I often struggle to accurately express myself (b/c autism+), but my request is for help with self-education re: gender. I have trouble reading/parsing academic/jargon-heavy texts, but I want to understand gender variances, esp. non-binary. (e.g., how is maverique distinct from agender?) It’s all very confusing, and I fear many transgenders will hate me b/c I’m cisgendered, b/c the things I see on my dash re: cishate are scary… I just want to understand. T^T Oh, crap, I meant to ask how maverique is distinct from genderqueer/non-binary. I found out on the gender wiki, though, that both non-binary and genderqueer are umbrella terms, so… I feel like I’m making an ass of myself. I think that I’ll probably never understand because I don’t have the same struggle, but I’d like to try. hi! don’t worry, you’re not making an ass of yourself. gender…

NOT THAT. it’s something else. hang on, i’ll explain it, just give me a sec. where’s that dictionary? ...this dictionary is shit. i’m gonna google it, just a sec. -- years later -- me: GODDAMNIT, i’ve looked fin everywhere, even tried to settle for something else, but i can’t. can no one talk about gender in a way that doesn’t revolve around masculinity or femininity OR being somewhere in relation to those two things?! for fucks sake, never mind. just call me maverique. i’m maverique. *writes it into the dictionary with a sharpie* *points really, really hard*

anonymous said: I know I’m late to the whole maverique discussion which means you might’ve already been asks this, but: How did you come up with the word maverique and is there a meaning behind the word besides the gender def.?? actually, while i have talked about why i coined the word maverique, i don’t think i’ve ever talked about my thought process behind coming up with the word. thank you for asking, anon. this is a great opportunity for me to do so. 🙂 Q: how did you come up with the word maverique? for the longest time i couldn’t find the words to describe my own sense of gender… none of the existing genders that i knew of described me and even when i tried to describe my gender in more general terms, i found it extremely difficult to do so… the only word that seemed vaguely relevant was…
