Q&A: “…I can kind of relate to what your earlier post is about the representations of androgyny and nonbinary people…”

    December 23, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said: hey I just wanted to say that I can kind of relate to what your earlier post is about, not in that i’m black but in that i’m amab and the representations of androgyny and nonbinary people I see tend to be of a white, slim, crew cut hair cut with afab secondary sex characteristics, like a white pre-t trans man. my face is distincitvely male so it’s really not possible for me to pull off that look you were talking about because I can’t fit into that narrow somewhat accepted box. I might be getting a bit philosphical but I think that society see things in categories, like the light spectrum, even though there are infinite shades we demarcate them into 8 colours, in the past lgbt was pretty much all the colours there were, now there’s lgbtqia+. So if it’s any consolation as someone who is…

Q&A: “I identify as homoflexible, it’s what fits me best, but I didn’t realize it was biphobic…”

    December 23, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said Hi I saw your post about homoflexibility and I wanted to ask you about it. I think I identify as homoflexible, it’s what fits me best, but I didn’t realize it was biphobic and I’m really freaked out because I don’t want to be biphobic it’s just what fits me best. I don’t consider myself bi because while I occasionally can have attraction to guys I don’t want a relationship(or sex) with a guy, I just don’t. But I’m not a lesbian either because I can occasionally experience attraction to guys. hi anon, first of all, sorry for taking so long to respond to your ask. i hope you’re well. i’m guessing that the post that you’re referring to is this one? as i tried to make clear in the original post, i was only voicing my own personal qualms with common definitions of homoflexible (and heteroflexible) and…

Q&A: “Are there any gender-inclusive terms that can take the place of “ma’am” and “sir”…”

    November 19, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said: Are there any gender-inclusive terms that can take the place of “ma’am” and “sir” when trying to get someone’s attention? Or for addressing people when you need to be extra polite. I haven’t had any luck finding one. “Hey, you” doesn’t quite cut it. i usually just drop such words entirely rather than attempt to replace them. “excuse me, sir / ma’am.” “pardon me, sir / ma’am.” “i’m sorry, sir / ma’am, but do you…?” in writing, you could replace “sir / ma’am” with “mx” (pronounced ‘mix’), but in a verbal situation that calls for politeness, that’s probably not the way to go. anyone else have any suggestions for anon?

Q&A: “…is there are word for “aromanticism” in Japanese?”

    November 14, 2017 / No Comments

livingxvxfaith said: Hi Vesper! I was wondering, is there are word for “aromanticism” in Japanese? For アセクシャル/アセクシュアル there’s アセクシュアリティー, but I can’t find an official Japanese noun companion for アロマンティック… hi. 🙂 ‘aromanticism’ is phonetically transcribed as アロマンティシズム in Japanese, but it’s very rare that i see anyone actually using that word. actually, even アセクシャリティ / ‘asexuality’ isn’t used often. outside of perhaps academia or writing where someone is discussing sexual orientation(s) in an abstract or objective way, it’s more common to use adjectives or adjective phrases… that is, if any distinction is even being made between ‘asexual(ity)’ and ‘aromantic(ism)’ at all. ……but anyway uhhhhhhh. yeah. アロマンティシズム is the word you’re looking for, although there’s nothing particularly ‘official’ about any of these words or language in general? unless we’re talking French or something.

Q&A: “do you happen to know of resources about autism in the Japanese community…?”

    November 14, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi I’m sorry if this is worded weird or not a good question but do you happen to know of resources about autism in the Japanese community and/or the US Japanese community? I’ve been having trouble finding any. hi, anon. sorry for the delay in replying. i’m afraid that i won’t be of much help to you on the topic of autism (自閉症 / jiheishou) in Japan or within the Japanese-American community. if you can read Japanese or are looking for information to pass on to someone who can, the Autism Society of Japan’s website is probably as good a place as any to start? i can say, however, that having taught in Japanese schools for 7 years, i’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that much like that organization’s ridiculous, late 90′s, cookie-cutter website design and content, general resources and even just public awareness of anything related…

anonymous said: As a closeted nonbinary person, your videos always hit close to home for me. It seems whenever I’m confused, questioning, or concerned about something, I’ll check your channel and you’ve recently released a video on the topic. Your vlogs really just strike a chord with me, and I wanted to thank you for making them. thank you so much, anon, for taking the time out of your day to send me this incredibly kind message. i’ll never cease to be amazed at how relatable people find my random musings, rants and monologues and i’ll never cease being motivated to continue recording them thanks to people like you who are kind enough to remind me that they matter to more than just me. <3 thanks again, anon. i really appreciate your kindness.

Q&A: “How exactly would I ever come out [as asexual] to my parents?”

    October 15, 2017 /

anonymous said: This is random but haiii , i just wanted to stop by and say you are amazing.. You helped me a lot with my sexuality(Asexual) and I would like to thank you ^~^ but I do have one question.. How exactly would I ever come out to my parents? ohai, anon. thanks for the kind words. 🙂 also, sorry about my slow response, especially if you were hoping for a reply ahead of National Coming Out Day. i can’t tell you how exactly to come out to your parents. the question of if you should even come out at all and if yes, when? how? where? etc is entirely up to you. not everyone comes out to their parents for various reasons and it’s important that you give due consideration as to whether you should come out to yours or not, not just how to do it. remember that…

Q&A: “I stumbled across the term Maverique a few days ago…”

    October 15, 2017 / No Comments

anonymous said: I stumbled across the term Maverique a few days ago. Before I went w/ the gender I was assigned at birth (cuz ¯_(ツ)_/¯), but the definition just “clicked”. After reading more about it I’m not sure if I can ID that way tho, cuz while I don’t feel genderless, or like a man/woman, I do feel kinda “feminine”, but it’s not like “”””feminine””””, you know? It’s really “me”/innate & unrelated to things outside myself, but feminine as a word still fits, just the concept of feminine is my own. Thoughts? sorry for the slow reply, anon. i’m sorry that my definition of maverique being what it is has caused you to question whether you can identify as maverique or not. my personal stance is that if you feel like ‘maverique’ describes you then it does, even if ‘feminine’ also happens to describe you as well. i’m the last person to…
