Burnt Out & Neurotic: The Toll of Blogging While Ace and Mentally Ill
Over the course of the past few years or so, I've had no choice but to come face-to-face with the fact that I'm not exactly the spitting image of mental health. That, in fact, I never have been, having struggled with persistent depression and social anxiety for years, whether I was conscious of that fact or not. As such, debilitating depression/anxiety isn't new to me. Simultaneous burnout and mental breakdown on account of blogging was, however.

Tumblr trolls…. ugh.
blaqueer: so, you know that saying “laughter heals the soul”…? well, i certainly wouldn’t go that far, but it did make for a good, even if “childish”, way to pass the time on Snapchat at work today. at the very least, it’s better than getting annoyed or frustrated, as per usual. see: original post bitmoji and Snapchat make for Tumblr-worthy reactionary screenshots, apparently.

Q&A not Q&A: “I hate discourse!”
anonymous said: I hate discourse! Honesty it makes me feel like crap whenever I see it. I want it to stop. I hate that asexuality/ aromanticim has become a punching bag for a portion of the tumblr community and acceptable to mock. *gah* *nods* ‘discourse’ really is frustrating, among a million other things. not gonna lie, i’ve very much enjoying my time offline with Cal or online with Netflix– anywhere that isn’t Tumblr tbh. i’m a huge advocate of dropping Tumblr like it’s a bad habit when it gets to be too much (or when life happenings just otherwise makes Tumblr “eh”)– or alternatively, blocking (temporarily or not) people who bring (inadvertently or not) posts from the ‘discourse’ side of Tumblr onto your dashboard. alternatively alternatively, use browser extensions to block keywords or tags to help keep yourself from seeing such posts without out completely blocking out a person or their blog entirely. there…

Q&A not Q&A: “i know you probably don’t care much abt the latest wave of “”discourse””…”
anonymous said: i know you probably don’t care much abt the latest wave of “”discourse,”” especially not something that was done to be deliberately petty/to get attention, but. just to catch you up while you’ve been busy, at one point, ppl who want to exclude us tried to redesign the ace and aro flags. shit’s gotten /that/ ridiculous. this ask is 2 months old and i have not been paying any attention to ‘discourse’, so who knows what’s happening now because i sure as hell don’t. i will say, though. that i’m not surprised to hear that at one point that happened. to me, shit’s always been /that/ ridiculous… to anyone being negatively affected by ‘discourse’ on this site: please be sure to take a break from Tumblr when you need to. please take care of yourself and don’t let this site’s negativity consume you. log out every once in a while–…

Feedback: “TERFs are always gross to get attention from, but thank you for posting…”
anonymous said: TERFs are always gross to get attention from, but thank you for posting that so we all know what assholes to block. (re: this post) *shrugs* they’re similar to the porn bots that are common on Tumblr in more ways than one, honestly. one finds your post based on systematic keyword / tag searches and once one has latched onto a post, lots of others inevitably follow. i usually just block and (try to) ignore them as they come without saying or doing anything to give them the platform or audience that they want, but i was especially annoyed last night, so… definitely best to just block and ignore rather than engage in any way. probably should have contained my venting to Twitter, but oh well. at least someone found my venting useful.

tfw TERFs.
…mmm, that feel when you’re getting an influx of notes because a certain post of yours is being circulated among TERF lesbians praising Japan for its trans misogyny. edit: oh joy, of course someone had to go there. trigger warning for all of the links in this post, but rape warning for that last one.

Q&A: “…does anyone ever talk about how jobs can limit one’s choices for gender presentation?”
anonymous said: Concerning being either GNC or nonbinary, does anyone ever talk about how jobs can limit one’s choices for gender presentation? I’m in hard science, which tends to have much stricter standards of “professional presentation” (and thus gender-performance), than the humanities. I couldn’t get away with half of the presentation stuff that people on Tumblr endlessly espouse if I want to actually get a job in my chosen field, which is then used as proof that I’m a faker and trend-follower. unfortunately i don’t have any links on hand to offer you, but i have seen many people both online and offline talk about the limitations (or even complete inability) that they face regarding being able to present themselves in a way that reflects their gender (or lack thereof)– both in regards to on the job and as a student because of standards re: “professionalism”. especially here in Japan…

Starbucks wifi censorship
so i’m at Starbucks using Starbuck’s free wifi while i work on stuff, as usual, when i randomly go on Tumblr and see the name of a familiar website, Black Lesbian Love Lab, being recommended to me. i didn’t know they were on Tumblr, so i clicked on the recommendation to check it out and was brought to the above page telling me that i’m unable to access @blacklesbianlovelab because of stipulations in the wifi service’s terms of use? wtf? i’m immediately reminded of the fiasco not that long ago when Tumblr marked the entire #lesbian tag NSFW, which i thought they’d fixed but? at the very least this seems like a remnant of that? although the wifi service itself is also involved, i can still access the BLLL website without issue and the content of the Tumblr blog by no means warrants it being treated like a porn blog. again,…

re: “aromantic relationships” and marriage as “the New Platonic Ideal”
minamina0013: queerascat: minamina0013: queerascat: …as much as i love this thread of posts in theory, my tired ass can’t help but sit here wondering why anyone need even get married at all to do or have any of the above things, the few actual legal matters that were mentioned aside. also, this uplifting of “aromantic relationships” and marriage as “the New Platonic Ideal” feels incredibly uncomfortable… @queerascat I agree I think a lot of those things could be achieved by simply being roommates. It’s pretty funny that what they’re dubbing as “the New Platonic Ideal” already has a name, it’s called “friendship”. Aromantic relationships could be called friendships if that’s how you want to label it but personally as an aro I would consider a relationship with another aro as queer platonic. Our relationship may not be romantic but I wouldn’t say that my QPP(s) and I are just ‘friends’ who…

A.F.K.
i will be (semi-)AFK from Tumblr Nov. 2nd (Wed) – Nov. 6th (Sun) JST as i’ll be visiting Tokyo and Shizuoka. while i’ll still be around ‘liking’ posts for future reference / reblogging, i won’t be posting or reblogging anything nor will i be responding to asks. if for whatever reason you need to contact me, email (queerascat at gmail dot com) or Tumblr’s messenger are your best bet. as always, i’ll still be active on Twitter, Instragram, Snapchat, and elsewhere, so if you want to check out what i’m up to or see random snaps of what i’m doing (such as the Instagram video above taken during my last trip to Tokyo), maybe follow me outside of Tumblr? either way, 行ってくる! see you in a few days.
