Q&A: “how is maverique distinct from genderqueer/non-binary…”

    January 16, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi, Vesper! Please, be aware that I often struggle to accurately express myself (b/c autism+), but my request is for help with self-education re: gender. I have trouble reading/parsing academic/jargon-heavy texts, but I want to understand gender variances, esp. non-binary. (e.g., how is maverique distinct from agender?) It’s all very confusing, and I fear many transgenders will hate me b/c I’m cisgendered, b/c the things I see on my dash re: cishate are scary… I just want to understand. T^T Oh, crap, I meant to ask how maverique is distinct from genderqueer/non-binary. I found out on the gender wiki, though, that both non-binary and genderqueer are umbrella terms, so… I feel like I’m making an ass of myself. I think that I’ll probably never understand because I don’t have the same struggle, but I’d like to try. hi! don’t worry, you’re not making an ass of yourself. gender…

Q&A: “You don’t think allosexual privilege exists?”

    January 15, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: So from what I gathered in your latest responses. You don’t think allosexual privilege exists, but do you think allosexism exists? A lot of what Amber says about the word allosexual also applies to monosexual like grouping people with their oppressors, some gay people being okay w/ the word but not everyone being fine w/ it, ignoring the fact that a lot of gay people hate the word monosexual, “monosexual privilege.” There r so many posts like the 1 blvkandasexual posted except about monosexuals & bisexuals. Would u consider posts like that homobphobic? Amber’s response seems to argue against the use of the word allosexual on some level, but I thought you were okay with the word? That entire thread and everyone’s responses to it (including yours tbh) makes it seem like the word allosexual is inherently homophobic, biphobic, panphobic, etc. like what??? Can you clarify your stance.…

Q&A not Q&A: “could that monosexual/allosexual argument be compared to colorism?”

    January 13, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: im whiteish so i dont feel comfortable speaking on this as if i know it personally but could i ask you… could that monosexual/allosexual argument be compared to colorism? like for example a lighter/paler person of X race is going to be oppressed on basis of race, but that doesnt stop them from being able to oppress a darker person of the same race. or lateral oppression between races, like if a black person and an east asian person call each other racial slurs it’s not like thats NOT racism… (in reference to this post) going to avoid discussing who has the potential to oppress who and all discussion of oppression in general that may lead to an Oppression Olympics, but… colorism is most certainly a thing, especially in the black community which is really the only community that i can speak personally of. imho, the trend of saying…

Q&A not Q&A: “Asexual doesn’t mean “lack”, it’s not a *lack* of sexual interest, it’s just *little to no* sexual interest…”

    January 13, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Asexual doesn’t mean “lack”, it’s not a *lack* of sexual interest, it’s just *little to no* sexual interest. It’s not missing, it’s just insignificant to the person who identifies as asexual. Asexuals aren’t broken. Asexuals aren’t missing parts. Asexuals can have sex lives, and still not have sexual attracted to anyone. (in response to this post) there are multiple things in this ask that i’d like to point out, so i’m going to use bullet points for the sake of clarity and ease. the whole point of that post was to say that there is more than one valid definition of what it means to be asexual. among those valid definitions is asexuality being a lack of sexual attraction. another valid definition is asexuality being little to no sexual attraction. some people in the asexual community do define asexuality in relation to sexual interest or desire. this is…

Q&A: “What do you think about the treatment of black people specifically in Japan?

    January 11, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hi, I’m also a black agender person from the states. What do you think about the treatment of black people specifically in Japan? hmm…. i’m finding this question really hard to answer because it’s so…. vague? and open-ended? hmm… i could respond to this with a really long winded answer, but i’m tired and should be in bed, so i’ll give you an abbreviated one! while Japan in has internalized antiblackness issues just like anywhere else, i don’t think that Japan (as a whole) treats black people any specific way. there are people who fetishize or idolize black (specifically black American) culture / music / people… these people are really fucking annoying to run into, but for the most part people are respectful and curious in a healthy way. aside from the aforementioned fetishists, i’d say the most troublesome thing that a black person encounters in Japan that…

Q&A: “do you think you could help me explain why sexuality is not the same as having a “racial preference”…?”

    January 9, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Hey, do you think you could help me explain why sexuality is not the same as having a “racial preference” for who you date? Like I know they’re different but I can’t seem to explain it very well. Thanks!! hi anon! sorry for taking so long to reply. in my humble opinion, “sexuality” is a very broad term that is used to describe a wide variety of things, including preferences that a person may have with regards to gender, number of partners, types of relationships, hair color/type/location, race, and a million other things. racial preference is a thing that could be considered relevant to a person’s sexuality. that doesn’t mean it isn’t or can’t be racist to have such a preference. that said, i get the feeling that you’re looking to explain the difference between sexual orientation and racial preference rather than sexuality in general. that is a…

Q&A: “can i use asexual as an umbrella term?”

    January 4, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: can i use asexual as an umbrella term? i identify with more than one (a)sexualites (cupio/demi/grey) so i think it’s a lot easier to just say im asexual sure, go with whatever feels comfortable and right for you, be it asexual, ace, ace spectrum, etc. some will disagree with me on this, but people use asexual as an umbrella word to mean various things all the time. i’m not an authority on the word asexual and i am not about to police others’ usage of the word.

    Q&A: “I think I’m a ciswoman, but I don’t know if I really felt related to other women…”

    January 4, 2016 / No Comments

Hi! I think I always felt comfortable with my gender and body, but it’s been a few days I’m looking for things on genders and identites to learn things. I think I’m a ciswoman, but I don’t know if I really felt related to other women. I feel related to women characters in medias and through feminism/sexism. But when my friends say “Hey, we’re women/you’re a woman/as women”, I’m like “and?” In fact, I think I identify as a woman but I don’t really care about my gender… I don’t know if I’m just a ciswoman trying to question myself for no reason or if I’m more in a grey area, like greygender and/or demigirl. Because I never questionned my gender. But when thinking about, the gender binary is just weird and I don’t know what I’m supposed to feel like “as a woman”. Maybe it’s like asexuality and aromanticism:…

    January 2, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: what is graysexual graysexual / gray-asexual is an umbrella term for people who experience sexual attraction infrequently, rarely, weakly, only under certain circumstances, etc and for people who feel a connection to asexuality but who do not identify specifically as asexual. see http://www.demigray.org/faq for more information.

Q&A: “what is the difference between bisexual and polysexual?”

    January 2, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: what is the difference between bisexual and polysexual? whenever i ask this i get a wishy-washy answer and I am hoping you can clear this up for me? thanks. hi, anon. may i recommend checking out my bi vs poly tag? you’ll find more in-depth answers to your question there. the short answer is that being bi and being poly means different things to different people. common definitions of the two are: bi: attraction to two or more genders. poly: attraction to multiple, but not necessarily all, genders. there can be and often is overlap between these two identities. again, please see my bi vs poly tag for more about that. that said, chances are high that you’ve in fact already come across similar responses to your question before and that you will consider my response to be as “wishy-washy” as the rest. i say this because in my…
