Feedback: “anon who asked abt alternatives to neutrois – your answer was helpful!”
anonymous said: anon who asked abt alternatives to neutrois – your answer was helpful! i haven’t seen much discussion abt neutrois as a term, so it’s good to know i’m at least not the only person who feels this way. ( re: this post ) thanks for coming back and responding. 🙂 indeed, despite the lack of talk about neutrois these days, you’re most definitely not alone. i’m sorry that months later, i still don’t have an alternative to neutrois to suggest to you, though… as i mentioned in a recent ask, i feel like even though there are people who do use ‘agender’ to mean ‘a complete lack of gender’ (ie. genderlessness), at the same time there are a lot of people who use ‘agender’ to mean something else, including ‘gender neutral’ (ie. not genderless, but rather a gender that is itself neutral). this may be nothing more than a faulty…

Q&A: “Is it just me, or has the definition [of agender] shifted?”
anonymous said: I’ve got a question about agender. I was sifting through some of your old posts and noticed that you’ve previously framed agender as including “doesn’t have any gender identity at all.” Is it just me, or has that definition shifted? I use quoigender over agender because I’ve always gotten this vibe from the nonbinary community(ies) that agender is a gender identity, like how asexuality is a sexual orientation. (Incidentally, I hope that you’re hiatus has helped you recover.) hello anon. thanks for the kind wishes and sorry for taking so long to get to your ask. i’m guessing that the old post that you are referencing might be this one? either way, i feel like everything that i said in that post still holds true today and not much has changed…? the non-binary community in general– and indeed, many agender people themselves– still has / have a tendency…

Q&A: “Is Maverique basically no gender as your gender identity?”
anonymous said: Is Maverique basically no gender as your gender identity? Kinda like how Agender is genderness. Maverique is no gender as your gender? sorry for the delayed response, anon, but i think you’ve got maverique and agender confused…? agender is commonly described as being (among other things) genderless, gender neutral and / or non-participatory in gender all together (as opposed to being a gender itself). maverique, on the other hand, is none of those things. maverique is described as having an explicit gender (as opposed to not having a gender at all). that gender (ie. maverique) is unrelated to either female or male gender, but at the same not “neutral” just because it happens to be independent of those two genders. for more information, you may (or may not) find this post helpful. there’s also the FAQ page over at @maveriques.

Q&A: “[i] need help finding a word for my gender identity, if possible?”
anonymous said: need help finding a word for my gender identity, if possible? agender was close, but its not that i dont have a gender, its that my gender is neutral. neutrois appears to be the closest thing, from the definitions ive seen. while i do have dysphoria & have thought abt certain aspects of transitioning, and a desire to be neutral in appearance – all aspects of definitions of neutrois ive seen – it appears to /require/ these things. and that heavy medical/clinical emphasis makes me v uncomfortable. oh, anon… if only you knew how ironic if feels to be on the receiving end of this ask. and in fact, i’ve been on the receiving end of an ask like this before. you aren’t alone in your discomfort. the irony, though? that i feel the same way and have felt this way since 2012, back when neutrois was much…

Q&A: “Can I be agender and maverique?”
anonymous said: Can I be agender and maverique? Like “I’m an agender maverique” is that a thing? I’m so confused halp. ;^; you are whatever you are, anon, and if that happens to be an agender maverique then you’re an agender maverique. it’s not a matter of something being a thing or not, it’s simply a matter of who you feel yourself to be. you know who you are and how you feel better than anyone else, so i encourage you to trust yourself no matter what others may say. your feelings of being agender and maverique are proof enough that yes, being an agender maverique is a thing because you are ‘a thing’. you exist and your feelings / experiences are valid, as are the words that you feel describes them best. having said that, you may find it encouraging to know that you would not be alone in being…

Q&A: “…does anything else about how gender is discussed estrange you?”
anonymous said: Branching off of your Cis-Trans binary video, does anything else about how gender is discussed estrange you? For me, settling on quoigender hasn’t been a comfortable experience, as it doesn’t provide the luxury or comfort of certainty. Coupled with ableism, aro- and acephobia, being quoigender and thus “see, not a real girl(TM) after all” makes gender itself alienating. I can’t “celebrate my gender identity” when I not convinced that I even have one, and suggesting that I should is insulting. ( re: this video / blog post ) there’s quite a lot surrounding gender and how it’s often discussed that bothers and / or alienates me, including the assumption that everyone knows their gender or even has one at all. that said, as someone who does have a gender, knows what it is and is comfortable in it, i admit that i am privileged in that regard and thus am…

Q&A: “Could it be possible that there really only are 2 genders?”
anonymous said: Hey, Vesper! I have a very serious question to ask. It’s about gender. It might come off as offensive, but in no means is it meant to be. Could it be possible that there really only are 2 genders? Hear me out: it can be argued that gender is not really determined by characteristics or genitals, instead more by chromosomes, XX or XY. For humans, biologically there is only male and female(no, i did not forget intersex), but gender identity can be a whole other deal! You see, gender identity can be how someone feels about their gender. Like, I was born female, but I did not feel like that fit. Male didn’t fit either, so I identify as agender. But, I didn’t really feel like it was an actual gender as much as an identity, a way for me to express myself. I may just be getting…

Q&A: “do you happen to know of a gender label/type that could be described loosely as…”
lymeandcoconut said: Hi there. I just started following you so I apologize if you’ve already addressed this, but do you happen to know of a gender label/type that could be described loosely as “I feel like at my core I’m agender, but I wear a female/male ‘suit'”? It’s hard to put into words, but I feel as if female is an outfit I wear, a role I play, but who I am underneath is agender. Have you heard of something like that? i’m afraid that i haven’t come across a gender that fits the description of what you’re looking for. i have seen people talk about “performing” a gender that differs from their actual gender (for example, an agender person who considers themself to “perform” the socially defined role of “female” in their day-to-day life), but i generally see that “performance” treated as separate from a person’s actual gender rather than…

『[4コマ]☆Xジェンダー☆』
…sigh. you know, i really want to be happy about these LGBTQIA 4-koma comics that Chii is doing to try and help raise awareness for lesser known genders and sexualities, but gah. i just can’t. because i suck. the linked comic that went up a couple days ago about Xジェンダー / non-binary is the last one i’m going to whinge over, i swear. for now. but first, an English translation of the comic to give context to my whinging. What’s “X-gender”? Xジェンダー (X-gender) people who, without deciding between “male” or “female”, take the stance or identity of being neither gender. referred to as “MtX” if designated “male” at birth and “FtX” if designated “female” at birth, however also referred to simply as “X” when not wanting to refer to one’s designated gender at birth. there are many definitions, but it goes something like this. red and white*: i want to be between male and female.…

Q&A: “you mention neutrois having ‘some bullshit requirement of dysphoria and a desire to transition’. What did you mean by this?”
jenovaii said: Hi, I’m at the crux of being upset, but I want to make sure I’m not just misunderstanding. In your discussion of why you coined the word maverique (which is a really nice-sounding term btw), you mention neutrois’ having “some bullshit requirement of dysphoria and a desire to transition”. What did you mean by this? I’m sorry if you’ve already answered some similar clarification; i did try to look through your blog for answers before asking. You can reply privately or not, nbd. hi and thanks for asking for clarification. 🙂 to quote the post in question more fully: i repeatedly saw people (wrongfully, imho) associating and/or confusing neutrois with agender and genderlessness, as well as throwing around some bullshit requirement of dysphoria and a desire to transition. in the above, i never actually said who was throwing around the requirements. i may be wrong, but i’m…
