Feedback: “I particularly relate to how you actively don’t identify as explicitly trans…”

thekunstisme said: I’ve recently discovered you on here and on youtube and I’ve been watching your videos regarding nonbinary identity and I am so glad I did! I particularly relate to how you actively don’t identify as explicitly trans because of a lot of the same issues I have with it and honestly it is just comforting to know I’m not the only person who has issues with the idea “if you’re not cis you MUST be trans” yeaahh, i’ve felt very alone in that (not identifying as trans, annoyance with the trans / cis binary) for a long time. it’s only in recent years that it’s become more obvious to me that there are a lot of people who do not explicitly identify as trans even if they aren’t cis and the response that i got to the video that i made about the trans / cis binary was a…

Q&A: “…does anything else about how gender is discussed estrange you?”

    December 6, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Branching off of your Cis-Trans binary video, does anything else about how gender is discussed estrange you? For me, settling on quoigender hasn’t been a comfortable experience, as it doesn’t provide the luxury or comfort of certainty. Coupled with ableism, aro- and acephobia, being quoigender and thus “see, not a real girl(TM) after all” makes gender itself alienating. I can’t “celebrate my gender identity” when I not convinced that I even have one, and suggesting that I should is insulting. ( re: this video / blog post ) there’s quite a lot surrounding gender and how it’s often discussed that bothers and / or alienates me, including the assumption that everyone knows their gender or even has one at all. that said, as someone who does have a gender, knows what it is and is comfortable in it, i admit that i am privileged in that regard and thus am…

Feedback: “Non binary opened my world but even then it is hard to fit between the cis and trans world…”

unepetitecrise said: Been following you for a while but just got around to watching your vlogs on being non binary/or trans ect. I was similar…until I heard of non-binary I just felt a but lost? Non binary opened my world but even then it is hard to fit between the cis and trans world. I was one of those people, I am ashamed to say, who was very ‘don’t call me cis cause you can’t call me that’ and it came across as transphobic but I now realise it was bc no label fits. So important to see someone explain it. TY! (re: these vlogs [ 1 ] + [ 2 ]) thanks for watching and for the kind message. 🙂 it’s definitely a topic that i’d love to see more discussion about and awareness of. imho, there’s a significant number of people who are overlooked, silenced and / or…

    let’s talk: the trans/cis binary

    August 19, 2016 / 1 Comment

note: this post is also a YouTube video, which was made in response to commentary made on another video about identifying as non-binary but not trans. you may want to watch the latter video before reading this. let’s talk about gender. let’s talk how you may or may not be aware of the false binary or dichotomy of male / female gender and how it erases non-binary people. then, let’s talk about how that isn’t the only binary that exists involving gender and identity. let’s talk about how even if a non-binary person manages to navigate the male / female gender binary within society and exist openly as a non-binary person, they’re then faced with yet another binary, another dichotomy from within the very communities that they should at least be able to feel safer in. let’s talk about how within the LGBTQIA there is / are: questionnaires, registration forms,…

    QAC 53 – The Trans/Cis Binary | Non-Binary vs Trans Identity | Let’s Talk

    August 19, 2016 / No Comments

as awareness of non-binary people continues to grow and awareness of the fallacy that is male/female gender binary grows with it, is a new gender binary taking its place? there is a common assumption within society in general, but dually so within the LGBT community, that anyone who isn’t trans is cis and vice versa… if you’re someone who believes this to be true, i’d like to invite you to join in on a conversation. let’s talk! even if you don’t believe that to be true, have a seat. let’s talk! but before we do, do me a favor and watch this video. ———– RELATED LINKS ———– QAC 52 – Non-Binary vs Trans Identity | “Transitioning” “Let’s Talk: The Trans/Cis Binary” (Tumblr post)

Q&A: “i know you identify as maverique but i was wondering if you also consider yourself trans?”

    March 5, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: hi, i know you identify as maverique but i was wondering if you also consider yourself trans? this is for a project im doing, in which i take stats on what labels nonbinary people use, and after looking on your about page, i was curious? thank you, i hope this is alright to ask hi. 🙂 i identify as maverique and as non-binary, but i do not personally identify as trans for various reasons that are related to me also not wanting to use the term “transition” to describe myself or the things that i (intend to) do. see this video for more info. having said that, your project sounds interesting. 🙂 i’d definitely be interested in hearing about your findings. i’ve long since been annoyed by the trans-cis binary that exists both within and outside of the trans community and i’m sure your findings will be influenced by that…
