Q&A: “s it possible to transition to non binary in California?”

    April 27, 2016 / No Comments

anonymous said: Is it possible to transition to non binary in California? I want to get surgery to at the least remove/flatten my chest… But I’m worried insurance will not cover it. i don’t know a whole lot about California, but i do know that California is one of the few states that prohibits health insurance from denying someone coverage based on their trans status. i also know that Obamacare and Medi-Cal, among many other insurance plans, cover various forms of medical transition. honestly, from what i hear, you’re in one of the best states in America when it comes to trans healthcare, so i wouldn’t be too worried. try Googling your city’s name (or the name of a major city near you) and “transgender” or “transgender healthcare” to find resources that may help you. sadly, searching for trans resources will get you a lot further than looking for non-binary specific resources,…

cautious optimism: yet another conversation with mom

    September 27, 2015 / No Comments

for those who don’t know, i stopped talking to my mom back in July. the situation with my mom evolved over a long period of time and i’ve talked about it twice on YouTube. [ 1 + 2 ] well, today i want to say extremely tentatively that it seems like some progress has been made in terms of restarting our relationship. i’m trying really, really hard not to be overly optimistic because if i’m wrong and things fall apart again, it will hurt all the more if i let my guard down and allow myself to be happy now. (tl;dr below) in recent weeks prior to today mom has made attempts at contacting me with such conversation starters as “help me understand.”, “what is it you want me to say?” and “i’m taking your sister to the ER so i thought i’d message you (ie: please talk to me).” aside…

QAC 33 – (Not) “Transitioning” As Non-Binary in Japan

    December 30, 2014 / No Comments

apologies for this video being incredibly long– there was lots to address and i still didn’t cover everything! in this video i talk about my current intentions re: social and medical/physical “transitioning”, why i personally don’t care for the term “transition”, why i won’t be doing anything while in Japan, why “transitioning” as a non-binary person is different from “transitioning” as a binary person and lots more. please bear in mind that this really isn’t meant as an educational video, but maybe it’ll be informative nonetheless…? =================== TIME POINT INDEX =================== @00:00 happy holidays! @00:20 why i don’t look forward to 2015 @02:22 why i don’t care for the term “transition” @04:48 TMI & trigger warnings –SOCIAL TRANSITION– @05:20 what is social transition? @06:36 social “transitioning” as non-binary @07:03 name change abroad, name dysphoria @09:01 coming out in Japan @11:13 gender marker change + bathrooms in Japan @12:39 voice training,…

QAC 29 – (Not) Coping + 3 More Years in Japan

    August 24, 2014 / No Comments

coping with dysphoria and being in the closet is tough for anyone, right? but as things are now, am i really coping at all or am i just setting myself up for disaster in the future? after all, going through life numb to your own feelings and thoughts can’t be a good thing… and on top of this, i’ve just signed a contract sentencing myself to 3 more years of dysphoria and life in the closet. i must be insane?

QAC 28 – On “Blackness”, Queer Identity & Intersectionality (a rant)

    July 14, 2014 / No Comments

i’m all over the place in this video. i rant about my personal experiences with the policing that takes place within the black community, concepts of “blackness” (and in turn, “whitewashing”) in the black community, being a black asexual, fears of transitioning as a black non-binary person, being black abroad and intersectionality, to varying degrees. i’m sure i’ll get ill feelings directed at me for some of the feelings and views expressed in this video, but whatever. my feelings and experiences are what they are and they needed to be (and deserve to be) expressed. that said, got your own personal experiences with race/ethnicity and sexuality/gender that you’d like to share? i’d love to hear about them. 🙂 sigh! this is why i don’t generally talk about this kind of stuff. “too much feels”…

    The Neutrois “Standard”

    February 11, 2014 / No Comments

so, there’s a thread on AVEN that opens like this… A new (to me) concept was recently thrown in my path. It’s the idea that there are sex orientations as well as gender orientations; ie that sex is not strictly what you physically look like, but what you want to look like (sexual characteristics-wise). For example, neutrois would count as a sex orientation, not a gender one; neutrois, as I understand it, is a desire to present as neutrally as possible, with the characteristics of neither binary sex. However, agender and genderless are gender orientations, because they specifically refer to the construct of gender, not physical aspects. This made a lot of sense to me, intuitively. It allows us to think of a single person as both neutrois and agender, to follow the above examples. Or neutrois and demi-guy, or androgynous man, or female agender, or any combination. I’m wondering how many…
