Q&A not Q&A: ” Aporagender is an appropriative term used/coined by white people…”

    December 14, 2015 / No Comments

anonymous said: On the aporagender topic. Aporagender is an appropriative term used/coined by white people who were sad they couldn’t use the term third gender. I’d advise you to use maverique, which is basically the same, but coined by a PoC and thus not appropriative. dear anon, care to explain what, exactly, is being appropriated by aporagender? the word itself isn’t appropriative, so what is it that’s being appropriated? do you seriously think that people of color are the only people who have the right to coin words for their own gender if it happens to be completely outside of the male-female binary?? also, you do realize that “third gender” is a word coined and used by white colonialist and anthropologists to indiscriminately and non-consensually label the genders of non-white people that they deemed “deviant” from “the norm”? that “third gender” itself is a white colonialist term, not a ‘POC term’?? yes, it’s a…

    October 12, 2015 / No Comments

me talking about my non-binary gender, maverique, as part of The Gender Tag, a project by Ashley Wylde. i also rant a bit about navigating my gender when even the non-binary community seems a bit too tied to the gender binary. – if you’re unfamiliar with The Gender Tag Project, find out more here: http://ashleywylde.com/videos/the-gender-tag-project/ – if you’re interested in learning more about maverique, check out: http://maveriques.tumblr.com/ ========= The Gender Tag Prompts ========= @00:35 1. QAC 28 – On “Blackness”, Queer Identity & Intersectionality (a rant)

    July 14, 2014 / No Comments

i’m all over the place in this video. i rant about my personal experiences with the policing that takes place within the black community, concepts of “blackness” (and in turn, “whitewashing”) in the black community, being a black asexual, fears of transitioning as a black non-binary person, being black abroad and intersectionality, to varying degrees. i’m sure i’ll get ill feelings directed at me for some of the feelings and views expressed in this video, but whatever. my feelings and experiences are what they are and they needed to be (and deserve to be) expressed. that said, got your own personal experiences with race/ethnicity and sexuality/gender that you’d like to share? i’d love to hear about them. 🙂 sigh! this is why i don’t generally talk about this kind of stuff. “too much feels”…
